Exciting Reveal: Saros Gameplay Unveiled at State of Play
In a highly anticipated showcase, Sony delivered an exciting presentation during its latest State of Play, featuring a significant overview of Saros. Developed by Housemarque, this new roguelike title was initially announced back in February. Now, with an extended gameplay trailer and a near release date set for March 20, 2026, fans are eager to dive into this immersive experience. Catch a glimpse of the action-packed five minutes featuring the main character, Arjun Devraj, by checking the video linked above.
Exploring the Universe of Saros
In Saros, players step into the shoes of Arjun, a human-like Soltari enforcer, as he journeys to unravel the mysteries of the lost colony on the planet Carcosa, shrouded beneath a daunting eclipse. Each death presents a unique twist, as the biomes within this shape-shifting alien landscape can alter dramatically, ensuring no two runs are ever the same.
Combat Mechanics and Unique Abilities
Equipped with a cutting-edge combat suit, Arjun can dash, melee, and leap through diverse sci-fi environments while engaging in fierce battles against the planet’s menacing inhabitants. Players will have a fascinating array of weapons at their disposal, both forged from Arjun’s own civilization’s technology and from alien artifacts discovered across the planet.
Gregory Louden, the creative director at Housemarque, elaborated on Arjun’s unique skill set: “Let’s discuss the abilities that redefine gameplay. First up, we have the Soltari Shield, activated by pressing R1. This feature allows players to intercept hostile projectiles, absorbing their energy for defense. Once the energy is absorbed, players can unleash devastating power using their Carcosan Power Weapon.”He continued, “The second special move involves charging the weapon with energy harvested from incoming projectiles by fully pulling the L2 adaptive trigger, and then launching this energy against enemies with R2.”
Revival Mechanisms and Progression Systems
The gameplay trailer also introduced a fascinating feature known as the Second Chance ability. This ability allows Arjun to respawn once during a run, although the exact mechanics surrounding death and revival are yet to be fully revealed. Louden commented, “This ability is one of the elements of our permanent-progression systems. We aim to ensure players always return stronger after each encounter with death.”This innovative approach could provide players with a persistent sense of growth and exploration.
Anticipating the Launch
Saros is set to launch on March 20, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. The anticipation for this title is building as gamers look forward to engaging with its unique gameplay elements and rich worldbuilding.
