Malik Monk injury update: NBA Insider provides concerning timeline for 6MOY favorite

Malik Monk, currently the front-runner for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award, was recently forced to sit out after sustaining an injury during Friday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks. The Sacramento Kings were dealt a major blow as one of their key players suffered a sprained right MCL, just as the 2024 NBA Playoffs are approaching.

Despite having only nine games left in their season, the Kings are currently in position to potentially qualify for the NBA Play-In Tournament. However, the absence of their sixth man could prove to be a major obstacle, despite still having their star players De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.

According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sixth Man of the Year contender will likely be sidelined for four to six weeks. This means that Monk is unlikely to participate in the Play-In Tournament. However, if the Kings are able to advance past the Play-In, Monk may potentially return for the playoffs.

The Dallas Mavericks (44-29) defeated the Sacramento Kings (42-31) with a score of 107-103 on March 29. The Kings currently hold the eighth spot in the Western Conference, but they have the opportunity to move up to sixth if the Mavericks lose their momentum and drop from their current sixth position.

Despite their efforts, the task of replacing Malik Monk, one of their key players, has proven to be more challenging than expected. Monk, who was a strong contender for Sixth Man of the Year, suffered an injury during Friday’s game against the Mavs. Only one minute into the game, he collided with Luka Doncic while attempting to block his shot. Unfortunately, Doncic’s landing on the Kings’ guard resulted in a sprained right MCL.

Despite grimacing in pain after the play, Monk managed to walk back to the locker room on his own. However, Sacramento ultimately decided to rule him out for the remainder of the game, as he had only scored two points and secured one rebound.

Malik Monk’s current statistics show a significant improvement in his performance, with a career-high of 15.4 points and 5.1 assists per game. Additionally, he has also been able to maintain a career-best of 2.9 rebounds per game and an impressive shooting accuracy of 44.3%.
