MachineGames Teases New Wolfenstein Game: “We Have A Story To Tell”

Exciting Developments Ahead for the Wolfenstein Franchise

MachineGames, well-known for its contributions to the action-adventure genre, has made a significant pivot by transitioning from its iconic protagonist BJ Blazkowicz to a new narrative centered around Indiana Jones. Nevertheless, the studio’s focus remains steadfastly rooted in battling the Nazis. In a recent revelation, studio head Jerk Gustafsson disclosed that plans are underway for another installment in the Wolfenstein series, emphasizing that they “have a story to tell.”

The Inside Scoop from NoClip

Gustafsson’s insights were featured in the latest NoClip documentary titled The Making of Wolfenstein, which was highlighted by PC Gamer. He made it clear that MachineGames had always envisioned BJ Blazkowicz’s saga as a trilogy from the outset, meticulously planning the storyline for each installment even as they developed the first game, Wolfenstein: The New Order.

“We have always seen this as a trilogy. That journey for BJ, even during those first weeks at id, when we mapped out New Order, we still had the plan for at least [BJ], what would happen in the second one and what would happen in the third one. I think that’s important to say, because—at least I hope—we’re not done with Wolfenstein yet. We have a story to tell.”

Looking Back at Recent Releases

The last major title in the Wolfenstein series was Wolfenstein: Youngblood, released in 2019. This game took a fresh approach by shifting the spotlight to Blazkowicz’s daughters. Since then, the developers have shifted their attention toward the upcoming Indiana Jones game. However, there is considerable enthusiasm among fans for Blazkowicz’s potential return to the franchise, where his character resonates with both veterans of the series and newcomers alike.

Beyond Gaming: Wolfenstein TV Series in the Pipeline

In addition to the anticipated new game, exciting news has emerged regarding a Wolfenstein television adaptation. This collaboration between Amazon Prime Video and MachineGames is reportedly in development. Although there were speculations about a cancellation of other projects within MachineGames, it has been confirmed that the studio remains committed to concluding Blazkowicz’s narrative arc.

With multiple avenues of storytelling expanding the Wolfenstein universe—both in gaming and through television—enthusiasts can look forward to rich, engaging experiences that continue to explore this iconic series for years to come.
