MachineGames targets 60fps performance for Indiana Jones game on Xbox Series X and S

MachineGames is making significant efforts to ensure that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle achieves a smooth 60 fps experience on the latest Xbox consoles. While the developer has yet to provide comprehensive information regarding the game’s performance across various platforms, creative director Axel Torvenius offered insights during a recent press event.

“As we approach the launch, we may unveil more technical specifics, particularly once we analyze performance data,”Torvenius explained in an interview with Windows Central. “However, our goal is for the game to consistently run at 60 FPS on both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.”

Many modern AAA titles on current-generation consoles often feature dual gameplay modes: Quality and Performance. The Quality mode typically aims for enhanced visual fidelity at 30 fps, while Performance mode focuses on maintaining a smoother 60 fps, sometimes at the expense of graphical details. This approach might apply to the Great Circle as well, although the studio hasn’t confirmed this just yet.

“We want to ensure that neither the visuals nor the overall experience feels compromised. Our aim is to deliver a cohesive and smooth gameplay at 60 fps across both consoles,”Torvenius added.

Owners of the Xbox Series S might find this declaration particularly promising, given that this console often lacks a 60 fps option. The Series S has faced challenges due to its reduced power compared to the Series X, which has resulted in difficulties for some developers. A notable example involved Baldur’s Gate 3, whose Xbox release was delayed by several months due to performance challenges related to the Series S’s split-screen functionality.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S on December 9. While Microsoft is publishing the game, there is also a version in development for PlayStation 5, though its release date is yet to be confirmed.
