M5 MacBook Pro Models Expected Sooner Due to Low Stock of Current 14-Inch M4 Version

Apple is subtly hinting at an upcoming significant refresh of the MacBook Pro lineup, and the indicators are becoming more pronounced. Historically, Apple has demonstrated a clear trend where inventory levels dip prior to the release of new models. Recently, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has suggested that the launch of the M5 MacBook Pro may be imminent, perhaps sooner than anticipated.

Depleting Stock of Base 14-Inch M4 MacBook Pro Signals Approaching M5 Launch

According to Mark Gurman‘s recent post on X, custom configurations for the base 14-inch MacBook Pro are on hold until late October. In contrast, the upgraded 14-inch M4 Pro and M4 Max models, along with the 16-inch variants, remain unaffected. This type of limitation in availability usually points to the company’s shift towards new production, implying that Apple may be in the final stages of readying the next generation of MacBook Pro models featuring the M5 chip. As part of Apple’s ongoing silicon evolution, the M5 chip is poised to advance performance significantly, with previous leaks supporting this expectation.

In a recent video, a Russian YouTuber showcased an extensive unboxing of the M5 iPad Pro, comparing its aesthetics and performance metrics to the M4 variant. Early assessments suggest a potential performance increase of 10 to 15 percent in CPU speeds and up to 35 percent in GPU capabilities over the M4. These enhancements could significantly benefit creative professionals, streamlining workflows, accelerating rendering times, and enhancing power efficiency for users demanding peak performance from their devices.

Regarding the design, Apple seems satisfied with the existing aesthetic of the MacBook Pro models. Thus, the forthcoming M5 versions are likely to maintain the familiar aluminum chassis, display dimensions, and port configurations established with the M2 redesign. However, minor yet beneficial upgrades might be included, such as Thunderbolt 5 compatibility, an advanced thermal system, an improved 12MP front camera, and potentially a new color option.

As for the launch timeline, various reports indicate that Apple could unveil the new models by late 2025. An early 2026 release window has also been mentioned. Gurman has suggested that Apple may adopt a phased rollout strategy: introducing the base M5 model first, followed by the M5 Pro and M5 Max variants in the Spring of the following year.

Next year also holds promise for OLED MacBook Pro models, which could revolutionize Apple’s notebook offerings. However, the timeline for these OLED variants remains uncertain—whether they will be delayed until 2027 or be launched alongside M5 and M6 models next year is yet to be determined.
