Luka Doncic eligible for $346,000,000 extension, richest contract in NBA history
Luka Doncic is poised to earn a substantial amount of money, as he becomes eligible to sign a five-year, $346 million extension with the Dallas Mavericks during the 2025 offseason. ESPN’s Bobby Marks highlighted the contract as the “most lucrative deal in NBA history”.
Doncic will be eligible for both MVP and All-NBA honors after playing in 65 games this season. If he is named to the latter, he will receive the supermax. Marks provides a brief explanation of the potential outcomes and reasoning behind them.
Doncic is just one of numerous All-Stars who will qualify for the massive extension, as long as they fulfill the requirements of being selected to the All-NBA team and having a sufficient number of years in the league.
The Slovenian earns approximately $40 million annually and is now poised to receive a significant salary as he strives to guide the Dallas Mavericks to an NBA championship.
Luka Doncic leads Dallas Mavericks to top 5 seed in Western Conference
Despite facing one of the top-performing teams in the NBA, the Mavericks were propelled to a No. 5 spot in the Western Conference thanks to a spectacular display by Luka Doncic. They ended the Houston Rockets’ 11-game winning streak with a dominant 125-107 victory, extending their own winning streak to seven and their overall record to 11 wins in 12 games.
Despite already achieving it, Luka Doncic once again proved to be the one to do it, scoring 47 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, dishing out seven assists and making two steals. He shot an impressive 18-30 from the field and 9-16 from beyond the arc in just 35 minutes of playing time.
With ample support from Kyrie Irving (24 points and seven assists) and Dante Exum (13 points), he was able to lead his team to victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. This win brings their record to 45-29, tied with the Pelicans who are currently ranked just below them.
Doncic exuded an air of optimism after the game.
“I had a good feeling it was going in. We stay together all the time. Even when a team goes on a run, we stay together, and that’s the most important thing.”
If Luka Doncic can continue to lead Dallas to victory, he may challenge Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic for the MVP title. Jokic, a two-time NBA MVP, is currently favored to win a third this season, but only time will reveal if Doncic has a chance to compete for it.
