“Love to see it!” – Coco Gauff, Sloane Stephens, Jessica Pegula & others congratulate Danielle Collins on winning maiden WTA 1000 title at Miami Open

After a stellar performance on Saturday (March 30), Danielle Collins emerged as the champion of the 2024 Miami Open, claiming her first ever WTA 1000 title in an impressive victory over fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina in the final. Following her win, Collins received an outpouring of congratulations from her fellow players on various social media platforms.

Despite her impending retirement this year, Collins still managed to put together an impressive campaign in Miami. While she did drop the first set in her opening match against Bernarda Pera, the 30-year-old went on to win her next six matches without dropping a single set, defeating tough opponents such as Elena Rybakina, Caroline Garcia, and Sorana Cirstea.

After Danielle Collins’ successful title win, No. 3 ranked player Coco Gauff shared her excitement on her Instagram stories, congratulating her fellow American. She shared a WTA graphic along with four heart emojis.

In 2021, Danielle Collins had already earned two WTA titles. Her first professional tour victory was in July of the same year when she defeated Elena-Gabriela Ruse from Romania at the Palermo Ladies Open on clay.

Just one month later, the 27-year-old clinched another title at the WTA 500 event in San Jose, California. She emerged victorious over Elena Rybakina and Daria Kasatkina on her way to the championship.

Prior to winning the Miami Open, Collins had her best performance at a major or WTA 1000 event at the 2022 Australian Open. She defeated Iga Swiatek in the semifinals but ultimately lost to the then-World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in the final.

Despite her inconsistent form leading to her fluctuating rankings, the American achieved a career-high ranking of No. 7 in July 2022 thanks to her performance in Melbourne. And now, with her recent victory in Miami, the 30-year-old will once again crack the top 30 when the updated WTA rankings are released next week.
