Lori Loughlin and Eriq La Salle are set to star in the exciting new series, On Call. Created by Elliot Wolf and produced by Dick Wolf, the show delves into the lives of a rookie cop and his seasoned partner as they navigate the challenges of daily patrols. Loughlin portrays Lieutenant Bishop while La Salle takes on the role of Sergeant Lasman, both of whom bring their extensive experience to the precinct.
Loughlin’s background in serialized crime dramas is noteworthy, with her having appeared in popular shows such as Psych, Major Crimes, and Blue Bloods. Similarly, La Salle is recognized for his iconic role as Dr. Peter Benton on NBC’s celebrated medical series, ER, which earned him three NAACP Image Awards throughout his career.
With the streaming debut of On Call on Prime Video, ScreenRant had the opportunity to interview Loughlin and La Salle. They discussed how their past experiences shaped their characters, the complex dynamics between veteran officers and rookies, and the significance of a pivotal “one call”that could alter their characters’ careers.
Lori Loughlin Reflects on Her History in Crime Television
“This is a very different character that I’m playing this time around…”
ScreenRant: Lori, your history includes roles in numerous crime-related television shows. How did this background help you prepare for your role in On Call?
Lori Loughlin: I feel that On Call is a different experience altogether. I’m genuinely grateful for the opportunity and the support from everyone involved, especially Dick Wolf and Eriq, who welcomed me into the project. Playing Bishop required me to adapt; it was a unique challenge that involved teamwork. Eriq was incredibly supportive, providing guidance and encouragement which helped refine my portrayal of the character.
Comparing Perspectives of Veteran Officers and Rookie Cops in On Call
“There’s history there and some tension…”
Eriq, as Sergeant Lasman, you portray a seasoned officer in a narrative that primarily includes rookie cops. How would you describe your dynamic with Officer Harmon?
Eriq La Salle: Initially, there’s a sense of history and tension between us. However, as the season progresses, deeper complexities emerge in a very engaging manner. The show thrives on its layers; not everything is black and white. Often, misunderstandings and miscommunication play a role. This reflects real-world dynamics where conflicts can stem from misconceptions. Exploring the untold histories between Lasman and Harmon provides valuable insights into the various perspectives that exist within law enforcement, as each officer brings their unique experiences to the patrol. It’s compelling to watch how we all handle the responsibilities of policing while striving to maintain our humanity.
Exploring Bishop and Lasman’s “One Call”Moments
“Would we possibly have been in a squad car together?”
The official trailer hints at a profound line—’We think we know what this job is until we get that one call.’ Do you both have insights into your characters’ respective “one calls”?
Lori Loughlin: That’s an intriguing question!
Eriq La Salle: Unfortunately, I don’t know yet, but I’m definitely going to ask the writers. Thanks for bringing it up, Liam!
Lori Loughlin: Imagine if we had shared a squad car for that significant call—what an interesting scenario that could be! Great idea, Liam; you’ve earned a writing credit!
Eriq La Salle: If a second season happens, maybe we should lobby to have a character named ‘Liam.’ You’ve given us some excellent material!
