The incident occurred on June 3 in Brook Green, Hammersmith, when the couple’s Jaguar was taken from their home. Little did the thieves realize that the vehicle was equipped with an AirTag, which enabled the couple to pinpoint its location in Chiswick, a nearby neighborhood. Despite their attempts to report the situation to the Metropolitan Police, the couple faced delays in police action, raising important questions about law enforcement’s responsiveness.

One of the vehicle’s owners recounted the experience to BBC News:

“I wanted to act quite quickly as my fear was that we would find the AirTag and not the car when it was discarded on to the street without the car, so I told them that we were planning to head to the location.”

Unfortunately, the police’s response was underwhelming. Rather than mobilizing an immediate response, they merely acknowledged the couple’s plan, suggesting they call back if needed. Despite the risks, the couple chose to pursue the location on their own. Upon arriving, they discovered their vehicle parked on a residential street. Utilizing the AirTag, they bypassed security protocols and successfully unlocked and recovered their car.
