In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, Yasuke and Naoe embark on a crucial mission directed by the monk Ujimasa to eliminate the Twisted Tree, a notorious noble family in Kyoto determined to assert control over the ancient capital by any means necessary. Despite their high status, many members of this elite clan have gone into hiding, complicating the task for our heroes.
To locate the elusive Twisted Tree, Yasuke and Naoe must not only gather clues but also navigate through various family members to draw them out into the open. The challenge lies in either targeting each member individually or confronting the patriarch, Takashi Inoshichi, to provoke a response from the rest of the clan.
Strategies to Uncover the Twisted Tree
There are primarily two approaches to uncovering the Twisted Tree:
- Collect clues to locate each family member individually.
- Confront Takashi Inoshichi first and wait for the family to regroup for vengeance.
The method of tracking down each member one at a time, while less swift, is significantly easier. On the other hand, instigating a broad fight in western Kyoto can expedite your progress but comes with the risk of facing multiple formidable foes at once. Choose your strategy wisely: whether to take on the family systematically or to engage them all at once with Yasuke’s aggressive approach.
Locations of the Twisted Tree Members
Takahashi Shiro
To find Takahashi Shiro, you will receive two important clues:
- He resides in central Kyoto.
- His hideout is at Nijo Palace.

Outside Nijo Palace, you’ll encounter a distressed merchant beside a pile of broken goods. Looting here provides you with a letter that hints at Shiro’s location. Proceed to Nijo Palace, where you’ll find him in the southwest corner by the viewpoint.

Defeating him grants you the katana named The Untamable One and an engraving for armor-piercing on consecutive kills.
Takahashi Taro
Next, locate Takahashi Taro by speaking with a merchant directed by Ujimasa, situated near Kiyomizudera. He can be found to the left of Nijo Palace.

This interaction leads you to Taro’s whereabouts at the Asukai Clan Domain to the northwest of Kyoto, where he is practicing in the courtyard.

Upon defeating Taro, you acquire the Burden of Legacy katana and an engraving for critical damage with melee weapons.
Takahashi Saburo
For Saburo, you’ll be provided with several leads:
- He is located in western Kyoto.
- His last known whereabouts involved a heated discussion with Taro.
- He seeks revenge for his father’s death.

Given that Taro trains at the Asukai Clan Domain, you can expect to find Saburo nearby, cooling off southwest of the domain.

He is accompanied by a robust bodyguard but drops Saburo’s Deference katana and tools on kill engraving when defeated.
Takahashi Jiro
To track down Jiro in southern Kyoto, converse with an umbrella merchant who will inform you to confront the family guard near Honnoji temple. After defeating the guard, obtain a letter that suggests Jiro will avenge his father’s death.

However, to truly confront Jiro, you must eliminate Takashi Inoshichi first. Afterward, you’ll find Jiro stationed at the same house next to Honnoji Temple, right by the entrance gate.

Conquering him yields the Final Word of the Guardian teppo and an engraving for armor damage on multiple enemies.
Takashi Inoshichi
Considered the head of the household, you can choose to confront Inoshichi first to expose his sons, or leave him for last to avoid an ambush. Head to the Takashi residence adjacent to Honnoji Temple.

Inside the main house, you will find Inoshichi with some attendants, yet he is relatively easy to defeat when approached alone. His demise rewards you with the Kitsune’s Trickery amulet and an engraving for health in samurai mastery.
Upon his death, the remaining brothers will emerge, immediately seeking vengeance at the entrance of the Inoshichi residence next to Honnoji Temple.
However, not all the Takashi siblings are loyal to their father.
Takahashi Goro
To locate Goro, you will need the following three clues:
- He is based in northern Kyoto.
- His freedom is contingent upon his father’s demise.
- He was spotted at Shokokuji temple.

After defeating Taro, you can find Goro at the Shokokuji temple, located at the northern edge of Kyoto, right by the burnt pagoda near Kinkaku-Ji.

When you find him, approach gently and press L2 to initiate dialogue, opting to spare him. This grants you the Raijin’s Refusal teppo and an engraving for damage after headshot.
Takahashi Ichi-Hime
Finally, when you search for Ichi-Hime, you’ll receive the following hints:
- She is based in western Kyoto.
- She will be liberated upon her father’s death.
- She has been seen at Umenomiya Taisha Shrine.

Post defeating Saburo, you’ll uncover Ichi-Hime’s location outside the city walls, west of the Nijo Tenshu viewpoint.

When you find her in the courtyard, employ a non-confrontational approach by holding L2 to engage, then choose the option to spare. You will then receive the Daydreamers Gift bow and an engraving for adrenaline on afflicted enemies.
Once all members of the Twisted Tree have been dealt with, return to Ujimasa, who will reward you with a key to unlock the inner gate of the castle, assisting in the advancement of the storyline. The true rewards, however, stem from the powerful equipment and experience gained throughout this vital quest.
For further exploration, consider pursuing additional targets associated with the Kabukimono, Origami Butterflies, and the Iron Hand Guild.
