In an exciting announcement, Niantic has revealed that Pokémon GO trainers will have the opportunity to use remote raid passes in Shadow Raids for the very first time during the upcoming Fashion Week: Taken Over event. Launched in 2023, Shadow Raids have quickly gained popularity among players for providing a thrilling way to catch powerful Pokémon.
As we step into 2025, Niantic has already begun rolling out various updates to enhance the gameplay experience. January highlights include the highly anticipated return of Ralts during the second Pokémon GO Community Day. As the event approaches, fans of the game are pleasantly surprised by the introduction of this long-awaited feature.
Exciting New Feature During Fashion Week: Taken Over
From Wednesday, January 15, at 12:00 a.m. through Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time, trainers can engage in Shadow Raids in-person or remotely using remote raid passes. This event includes one-star, three-star, and five-star Shadow Raids, providing players ample opportunity to capture Pokémon boasting enhanced IV stats.
Additionally, during the Shadow Ho-Oh Raid day on January 19 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, players can remotely battle and will have an increased chance to capture the elusive shiny Shadow Ho-Oh. Trainers can also learn the charged attack, Sacred Fire, for the Shadow Ho-Oh, while utilizing Charged TMs to erase the move Frustration from their Shadow Pokémon.
The inclusion of remote raid passes for Shadow Raids has long been sought after by players since its introduction in 2023, and its temporary availability will surely excite the community. However, post-event, the use of remote raid passes in Shadow Raids will not be permitted.
The future of remote raid passes for Shadow Raids remains uncertain. Given the feedback from players regarding Dynamax and Gigantamax battles—which require a sizeable number of trainers to congregate for challenging battles—many fans are hopeful that this feature will become a permanent element in the game.
