On October 24, rapper Lil Durk, also known as Durk Banks, was apprehended on charges related to murder-for-hire and is currently being held in federal custody in Florida. Following this development, a report from Hot New Hip Hop on October 27 revealed that the artist had supposedly misplaced his mobile phones just a week prior to his arrest.
As detailed by the same outlet, Durk mentioned on his Instagram Story that he had lost his phones shortly before his arrest. This incident occurred just one week ahead of NBC Chicago’s report on October 25, which stated that the rapper was taken into custody only one hour before he was due to depart for a trip to Italy on October 24.
Once detained by U.S. Marshalls, Durk faced federal allegations encompassing murder-for-hire. The indictment issued on October 25 detailed charges against Durk and five alleged co-conspirators, which included:
“… One count of conspiracy, one count of using interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire leading to death, and one count of utilizing and discharging firearms, including a machine gun, and possessing these weapons to facilitate a violent crime resulting in death.”
Lil Durk’s Alleged Attempt to Escape
In light of the claims that he lost contact devices, Lil Durk allegedly planned to flee the United States to evade arrest, as reported by The Chicago Tribune on October 25. According to their report, he was apprehended by law enforcement “in the vicinity of the departing airport”roughly an hour before his scheduled flight.
At the time of his arrest, Lil Durk was located in Ft. Lauderdale and had made arrangements for flights to Dubai and Switzerland—one departing from Fort Lauderdale to Switzerland and another from Miami to Dubai. However, neither flight was undertaken.
According to the federal complaint, these events unfolded prior to his arrest concerning an incident where he was implicated in a shooting targeting another rapper, Quando Rondo, in Los Angeles back in 2022. Reports indicate that Durk’s associate, King Von, was fatally shot by one of Rondo’s associates, Lul Timm.
As a result, it is alleged that Durk conspired to hire five individuals to murder the Georgia artist, whose real name is Tyquian Terrel Bowman, as revenge for King Von’s death in 2020. Instead of Rondo, however, the shootout resulted in the death of Lul Pab, a cousin of Quando.
The report elaborated that Durk “offered a monetary reward”for the execution of Rondo. On Thursday morning, all five individuals he was said to have hired—Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston—were arrested, and multiple search warrants were executed. They subsequently appeared at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse on Friday.
Furthermore, the indictment outlined that these individuals faced charges for conspiracy to carry out murder-for-hire that led to death, along with using a machine gun that resulted in fatal consequences.
The prosecution stated that the five suspects traveled to Los Angeles with the intent to shoot Quando Rondo while he was in his vehicle, but instead, they accidentally killed his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, known as Lul Pab, who was a passenger.
On another note, the FBI discovered that Lil Durk had made a reservation on a private flight to Italy. However, he was arrested before boarding and has since been transferred to U.S. authorities, currently held at Broward County Jail.
As of this moment, there have been no public comments from the lawyers representing the accused.
