Lil Baby’s Management Company Sued for $600K: Details on the Lawsuit Filed by Shooting Victim During Music Video Shoot

Kevin Mares, who was shot during the filming of a recent music video by Lil Baby, has initiated legal proceedings with a $600,000 lawsuit against Quality Control Music, LLC, and Shotclock LLC, the production company responsible for the shoot. The court filing asserts that these entities failed to ensure a safe environment, resulting in significant injuries.

The incident occurred on May 14, 2024, at Verbena Street in Atlanta, where an unidentified assailant reportedly opened fire while Lil Baby was filming his music video. Mares, who participated in the production, sustained a gunshot wound to his neck as a result of the attack. Consequently, he is pursuing legal action against both Shotclock LLC and Quality Control Music, LLC.

Mares’ legal complaints highlight the production companies’ alleged negligence in providing sufficient security measures during the filming. The lawsuit states that the involved parties “negligently failed to exercise reasonable care in the performance, training, and staffing of the specific security services necessitated for an international recording artist’s production.”

The lawsuit also points fingers at security firms Cannon Executive Protection Agency, LLC, and Tactical Elite Protection Services, LLC, alleging they subcontracted security duties improperly and did not supply adequately trained personnel. Notably, Lil Baby himself is not a defendant in this lawsuit.

Attorney Peter A. Law representing Mares, claims that the defendants were aware of the area’s violent crime history and the potential risks associated with filming in such a location.

“Defendants were aware or should have been aware that numerous violent crimes had taken place in the vicinity,”reads the court document.

Mares is seeking a total of $680,000 in damages to cover his medical expenses stemming from pain and suffering as well as a reduction in his ability to work. Additionally, he is requesting punitive damages, asserting that the involved parties exhibited “a conscious indifference to the potential consequences.”

On the same day as the incident, a video circulated on social media claiming that at least three individuals were shot during the music video shoot featuring Lil Baby in the Dixie Hills neighborhood of Atlanta. At that time, the Georgia police had not verified the exact number of injuries reported.

Eyewitnesses suggested that shots were fired in the vicinity of the filming. The police quickly arrived on the scene after receiving reports of gunfire. According to the news outlet Atlantanewsfirst, the shooting unfolded around 4:45 PM while filming was in progress.

It was also reported that Lil Baby was unharmed and not directly involved in the violence. On May 15, TMZ Hip Hop brought to light an audio clip of a 911 call in which the caller appeared to be in distress and could not provide clear details. Another caller informed dispatch about a man who suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and needed immediate medical attention.

The Atlanta Police Department reported that officers interviewed several witnesses at the scene, who indicated that two unidentified individuals were involved in an exchange of gunfire while filming was occurring. Witnesses claimed that the shootout escalated, putting some bystanders in harm’s way.

Reportedly, Lil Baby was in no way part of the conflict. Police seized several vehicles from the area as part of their evidence collection process.

Upon the arrival of the Atlanta PD, emergency medical personnel were already present to assist two out of the three reported gunshot victims. The three men are reportedly expected to make a full recovery, according to TMZ.
