Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has announced the much-anticipated return of Sega Racing Classic 2: Battle on the Edge, which will be featured in the upcoming release of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii scheduled for later this month. This exhilarating spinoff centers on the iconic Goro Majima, who takes players on an adventurous pirate journey throughout Hawaii, where they can assemble their own pirate crews and engage in intense naval battles.
Sega Racing Classic 2, initially known as Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge, debuted in 1998 on Sega Model 3 arcade machines. Despite its popularity, this beloved title never made its way to the Sega Dreamcast. However, it joined the Yakuza franchise a remarkable 25 years later, making an appearance in Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name in 2023. Notably, this classic arcade game was absent from last year’s acclaimed RPG entry, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, primarily due to the introduction of numerous new minigames and side quests such as Dondoko Island and the Sujimon League.
As the release date of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii approaches, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has confirmed that players will have the opportunity to enjoy Sega Racing Classic 2: Battle on the Edge as a fully playable arcade game within this thrilling pirate-themed title. This announcement was made via Twitter, accompanied by an engaging 30-second gameplay video showcasing the classic racer from 1998.
