Although Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth was just released earlier this year, it appears that the next installment in the previously titled “Yakuza”series is already in progress. As reported by Gematsu, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced auditions for the next Like a Dragon game in their latest video update. The title of this upcoming game is still unknown, but director Masayoshi Yokoyama clarified that it is not the remake of the third entry in the series, Like a Dragon: Kiwami 3, which is likely to happen in the future.
“It’s intriguing, this new project. It may seem odd for me to say so, but it’s important to clarify that this is not ‘Kiwami 3,’ as it has been heavily rumored. However, I do plan on creating a Kiwami 3 in the future. It’s just a matter of time.”
Therefore, what can we expect from the next installment of Like a Dragon? In recent times, the main games in the series have shifted towards turn-based RPGs, although RGG Studio has not completely abandoned action-based titles. They usually alternate between RPGs and more traditional beat ’em up games, such as the Judgment series and the upcoming Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name in 2023. If I were to make a prediction, I would say that the next release will be another “Gaiden”action game, considering that we just received an RPG this year. However, only time will tell.
Have you fallen behind on keeping up with the Like a Dragon franchise?
“Infinite Wealth, part of the Like a Dragon series, acts as a connecting link between the Yakuza and Like a Dragon, seamlessly merging them into one cohesive experience. It serves as a perfect farewell to Kiryu and a symbolic passing of the torch to the determined Ichiban Kasuga. Drawing from past installments, Infinite Wealth pays homage to series fans while also pushing the boundaries of a Japanese RPG. It can only be likened to Ryu ga Gotoku Studio’s own “Metal Gear Solid 4″moment.
What is your opinion, Like a Dragon enthusiasts? What can we expect in the future? What are your desires for the game?
