In Life is Strange: Double Exposure, dialogue choices are pivotal, significantly influencing the storyline and shaping player interactions with various characters. Among the cast is Loretta, an ambitious yet highly irritating journalist at Caledon University.
You first meet Loretta in the Fine Arts Building towards the conclusion of Chapter 1. Your initial objective is to eavesdrop on Dr. Gwen Hunter’s phone call when Loretta interrupts, adamantly questioning Max about the murder of Safi.
At this crossroads, players face a crucial decision: respond to her inquiries or challenge her bluff about reporting your eavesdropping to Gwen. Unlike many morally gray decisions throughout the game, this choice has a definitive right answer, and we will explore both options as well as the preferable one.
What Happens If You Call Her Bluff
Let’s first address the choice to “Call Her Bluff.”If you select this option, prepare for an unsettling experience for both you and Max. While you can respond to Loretta’s invasive questions in any manner, bear in mind that nothing you say will change the course of the story; ultimately, Max will refuse to divulge any further information.
Consequently, opting to bluff leads to Loretta reporting you to Gwen, prompting her disappointment. She instructs Max to stay away from her, negating any previous goodwill garnered, such as retrieving a book from a locked cabinet.
While you can defend yourself with various explanations, you will repeatedly face Max being awkwardly chastised for her nosy behavior. The silver lining, though, is the chance to read Safi’s manuscript on Gwen’s desk. However, due to Loretta’s interference, Gwen will remain cold, denying you access to the manuscript. Fortunately, you can still obtain it through the Dead Timeline at the Office Shift Point.
As for long-term consequences, choosing to confront Loretta does not haunt you later on; the subsequent USB Footage scenario involving Gwen unfolds independently, meaning this choice does not bear negative repercussions in that context.
What Happens If You Answer Loretta’s Questions
If your goal is to achieve the most favorable outcome from this encounter, responding to Loretta’s questions is the best path. Initially, you may hesitate, but it is indeed the right choice.
By answering, Max reluctantly addresses Loretta’s allegations about Safi taking advantage of her mother’s role. Upon asking if any individuals disapprove of this behavior, you can redirect Loretta to someone more knowledgeable about university dynamics, such as Vinh, Gwen Hunter, or Dr. Fayyad (Safi’s mother).
Choosing any of these characters will lead to an amusing outcome: the selected individual will grow increasingly frustrated with Loretta’s persistent inquiries.
For instance, I opted for Vinh, reasoning that both Dr. Yasmin and Gwen are dealing with intense challenges at this point. Sending an insufferable journalist their way would only exacerbate their troubles, creating more unnecessary chaos.
