Essential Libreoffice Impress Keybindings

LibreOffice Impress offers enough keybindings to fully control a presentation using the keyboard alone. Not only that, but the default keybindings in Impress include the ability to edit and insert templates and many other exciting features.

This cheatsheet will help you master the basic keybindings for LibreOffice Impress so you can quickly create slideshows and present them readily.

Document Manipulation
Ctrl + N Command + N Create a new Impress presentation.
Ctrl + O Command + O Open an existing Impress presentation.
Ctrl + S Command + S Save the current Impress presentation.
Ctrl + F4 Command + F4 Close the current Impress presentation.
Ctrl + P Command + P Print the current Impress presentation.
Ctrl + Shift + R Command + Shift + R Redraw the current Impress window.
Interface Manipulation
F6 F6 Switch the current focus to the next subwindow in the program.
Shift + F6 Shift + F6 Switch the current focus to the previous subwindow in the program.
F10 F10 Open the File context menu.

Ctrl + H Command + H Open the “Find and Replace” dialog box.
Ctrl + Shift + N Command + Shift + N Open the “Templates” dialog box.

Ctrl + Shift + F5 Command + Shift + F5 Open the Navigator window.
Slideshow Navigation
Left Arrow Left Arrow Go to the previous slide as well as play the embedded effects.
Right Arrow Right Arrow Go to the next slide as well as play the embedded effects.
Alt + Page Up Go to the previous slide without playing any embedded effects.
Alt + Page Down Go to the next slide without playing any embedded effects.
Home Go to the first slide in the slideshow.
End Go to the last slide in the slideshow.
Esc Esc Close the Slideshow window.
Selection and Navigation
Left Arrow Left Arrow Move the cursor one character to the left.
Right Arrow Right Arrow Move the cursor one character to the right.
Up Arrow Up Arrow Move the cursor one line up.
Down Arrow Down Arrow Move the cursor one line down.
Shift + Left Arrow Shift + Left Arrow Move the cursor one character to the left and select it.
Shift + Right Arrow Shift + Right Arrow Move the cursor one character to the right and select it.
Shift + Up Arrow Shift + Up Arrow Go one line up and select the text in-between.
Shift + Down Arrow Shift + Down Arrow Go one line down and select the text in-between.
Ctrl + Left Arrow Command + Left Arrow Move the cursor to the beginning of the current word.
Ctrl + Right Arrow Command + Right Arrow Move the cursor to the beginning of the next word.
Ctrl + Up Arrow Command + Up Arrow Move the cursor to the beginning of the previous paragraph.
Ctrl + Down Arrow Command + Down Arrow Move the cursor to the end of the current paragraph.
Home Go to the beginning of the current line.
Shift + Home Go to the beginning of the current line and select the text in-between.
Ctrl + Home Go to the beginning of the text block.
End Go to the end of the current line.
Shift + End Go to the end of the current line and select the text in-between.
Ctrl + End Go to the end of the text block.
Tab Tab Move through the objects in the current slide.
Shift + Tab Shift + Tab Move through the objects in the current slide in reverse order.
Page Up Move to the next slide in the presentation.
Page Down Move to the previous slide in the presentation.
Text Editing
Ctrl + Shift + Space Command + Shift + Space Create a non-breaking space.
Shift + Enter Shift + Enter Create a line break without creating a new paragraph.
Ctrl + – Command + – Create a hyphen character.
Ctrl + Shift + – Command + Shift + – Create a non-breaking hyphen character.
Ctrl + C Command + C Copy the currently selected object to the clipboard.
Ctrl + X Command + X Copy the currently selected object to the clipboard and delete it.
Ctrl + Z Command + Z Undo the last change that you made.
Ctrl + Y Command + Y Redo the last change that you made.
Ctrl + Delete Delete the current text until the end of the word.
Ctrl + Backspace Command + Backspace Delete the current text until the beginning of the word.
Ctrl + Shift + Delete Delete the current text until the end of the sentence.
Ctrl + Shift + Backspace Command + Shift + Backspace Delete the current text until the beginning of the sentence.
Groups and Object Editing
Ctrl + Shift + G Command + Shift + G Group the currently selected objects.
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + A Command + Option + Shift + A Ungroup the currently selected objects.
Ctrl + Shift + K Command + Shift + K Combine the currently selected objects.
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + K Command + Option + Shift + K Split the currently combined objects.
Left Arrow Left Arrow Move the selected object one pixel to the left.
Right Arrow Right Arrow Move the selected object one pixel to the right.
Up Arrow Up Arrow Move the selected object one pixel up.
Down Arrow Down Arrow Move the selected object one pixel down.
Ctrl + Mouse Drag Command + Mouse Drag Create a copy of the current object.
Alt + Mouse Drag Option + Mouse Drag Resize the current object.
Shift + Mouse Drag Shift + Mouse Drag Lock the movement of the current object in one axis.
Enter Enter Create a placeholder object in the current slide.
Slide Pane
Enter Enter Create a new blank slide.
Home Select the first slide in the presentation.
End Select the last slide in the presentation.
