Liam Payne’s Career Milestones: A Look at His Journey and Recent Tragic Events in Argentina

On October 16, 2024, former One Direction star Liam Payne tragically passed away due to injuries sustained from a fall from his hotel balcony in Argentina, according to reports from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office that were shared by Fox News on October 17, 2024.

The news of his death has left fans in shock and mourning. Liam Payne launched his career as a contestant on the seventh season of X Factor in 2010. After the auditions of that season, music moguls Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger formed the iconic boy band One Direction. Alongside fellow contestants Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, Payne contributed to the group’s rise to fame.

One Direction became one of the most successful music groups in history. The 31-year-old was celebrated for his vocal abilities and significant contributions to the band, receiving writing credits for several major hits, including Last First Kiss, Story of My Life, and Fireproof.

After the band announced an indefinite hiatus in 2016, Liam Payne—who fans affectionately called Daddy Direction—embarked on a solo path, delivering chart-topping tracks like Strip It Down and Get Low, and achieving over 23 million single sales.

He returned in 2010 and ultimately joined forces with Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson to form a boy band, achieving third place overall in the competition.

2) Signing with Syco Entertainment in 2010

In December 2010, Payne and his bandmates signed with Syco Entertainment, the label founded by Simon Cowell. Their debut single, What Makes You Beautiful, reached number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and soared to number one in the UK Singles Chart. The group released five highly praised albums and made history as the first band to have their initial four albums debut at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.

3) Up All Night Tour and Subsequent Tours (2011-2015)

Liam and his One Direction bandmates kicked off their first tour, the Up All Night Tour, to promote their debut album, which lasted from December 2011 until July 2012, traveling through various countries, including England, Australia, the USA, and Mexico.

Following Up All Night, they embarked on three more tours: Take Me Home, Where We Are, and On the Road Again, spanning from 2013 to 2015. Their final tour, On The Road Again, garnered impressive revenues, ranking as the second highest-grossing tour of 2015 with earnings exceeding $208 million.

4) Joining Republic Records in 2016

After the band’s hiatus was declared in January 2016, Liam Payne signed with Republic Records in North America in October of the same year, joining the ranks of notable artists like Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake. He was set to release his debut single the following year.

5) Debuting Solo with “Strip That Down”in 2017

In a bold move to redefine his image, Liam partnered with American rapper Quavo to drop his debut single, Strip That Down. This track showcased a more mature sound aimed at adult listeners.

The song climbed to number three on the UK Singles Chart and has achieved sales of approximately 11.5 million worldwide units.

6) LP1 Release in 2019

In December 2019, Payne launched his first and sole solo album, LP1. The album comprises seven tracks, including hits like Strip That Down, Get Low, Bedroom Floor, Familiar, and Stack It Up, blending pop, trap, hip-hop, and R&B elements. It reached number 111 on the Billboard 200 and number 17 on the UK Albums Chart.

7) Upcoming Solo Tour and Second Album in 2023

According to a Rolling Stone report, Liam shared in May 2023 that he was in the process of creating a new album, emphasizing his desire for more creative control. His debut solo tour was initially slated for September 2023 but was postponed due to his hospitalization for a kidney infection.

8) Release of “Teardrops”in 2024

Following his recovery, Liam made a musical comeback with the release of Teardrops in March 2024. This single marked his return to the music scene after Sunshine (2021) and stands as his final track. Critics praised the song, with Clash magazine noting its emotional resonance for those experiencing sorrow. It peaked at number 44 on the UK Singles Downloads chart.

In a heartfelt statement issued to PA Media, which was reported by CBS News on October 17, 2024, Payne’s family expressed their grief over his passing:
