Liam Payne Adopts Dog from Rescue Shelter One Month Before His Death
According to a report from The Mirror, just weeks before Liam Payne tragically passed away due to a fall, he and his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, welcomed a new dog into their lives.
The former One Direction star traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, alongside Kate to enjoy a vacation and attend a live performance by his friend, Niall Horan. As detailed by E! News, prior to their trip, the couple visited a local animal shelter where they interacted with three dogs, ultimately deciding to adopt a rescue pup named Nala.
The Mirror further revealed that before his untimely death, Payne expressed his love for the rescue dog, stating:
“I really love her. She is so cute. She is a tiny new member of the family for a while. We’re going to foster her for a while and get her really nice for a loving family I think. But we might be the nice family.”
While in Buenos Aires, Liam was staying at the CasaSur Palermo hotel when he fell from his hotel room on the afternoon of October 16. The shocking news of the 31-year-old artist’s passing has not only deeply affected his fans but also resonated with several celebrities over the past week.
Spotted Out with Nala
As reported by The New York Post, Kate Cassidy was photographed in public for the first time following Liam Payne’s death on October 21. The images captured her wearing grey sweatpants, slides, and a roomy white t-shirt while running errands.
Accompanied by two friends and Nala on a leash, she was seen carrying bags of dog food. On the previous Friday, Cassidy shared her feelings on Instagram, saying:
“Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.”
She added:
“Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
During the trip to Argentina, Cassidy returned to Florida just two days before Payne’s tragic incident. The Mirror noted that after adopting Nala, she shared:
“We did a meet and greet with three different dogs and this one fit us best. She’s so sweet. She’s only four months old. She was abandoned by her previous owners and dumped at the shelter. We wanted to give her a second chance and a better life.”
Anticipating Nala’s Return
E! News reported that Liam Payne shared a Snapchat video eagerly describing his excitement to return home and see his dog. Playfully referring to Kate as a “weirdo”for departing early, he added:
“Obviously, we’re gonna go home and see our dog… Nala, Noonie, Chooch. What else do I call her? I call her really random names, I make up a lot of random names. Choochie. So, nothing to do with Nala.”
Notably, Nala wasn’t Liam’s only adopted dog; he brought home another dog named Stanley earlier in the year. In an Instagram introduction of Stanley, he wrote:
“Our hearts are bigger with you in it.”
Following Liam Payne’s tragic passing, the autopsy report revealed that he died from “polytrauma and internal and external bleeding.”Furthermore, TODAY reported that Argentina’s National Prosecutor’s Office announced the seizure of various substances from his hotel room, indicating a potential history of alcohol and drug use.
