
LG has officially introduced its groundbreaking Primary RGB Tandem technology to the consumer market, marking a significant advancement in display technology. The first product to feature this innovation is the UltraGear 27GX700A, which has debuted in China as the world’s first Tandem OLED gaming monitor.
LG Unveils UltraGear 27GX700A: Exceptional Brightness and Visual Performance
The evolution of gaming monitors from traditional LCDs to advanced OLED panels has been remarkable, yet brightness limitations have persisted as a challenge for manufacturers. LG’s latest solution, the Primary RGB Tandem technology, seeks to overcome these limitations. Announced in late June, LG has commenced mass production of Tandem OLED displays, promising enhanced brightness and contrast over conventional OLEDs.

The UltraGear 27GX700A is one of the pioneering models to implement this Tandem OLED technology. Although recently showcased, it has just officially launched in China, with plans for availability in additional markets soon. The monitor harnesses Primary RGB Tandem technology, consisting of four layers of RGB stacks. This unique configuration includes two blue layers alongside one each of red and green, in contrast to traditional OLEDs that utilize a single multi-colored organic layer.

Thanks to the Primary RGB Tandem technology, the UltraGear 27GX700A boasts an impressive brightness level of 355 nits for full screen usage, with peak brightness soaring to 1500 nits—500 nits brighter than traditional OLEDs. This enhancement translates to exceptional clarity, making the monitor an excellent choice for gaming in bright environments. While it is positioned as a high-end gaming monitor, it operates at a refresh rate of 280Hz at 2K resolution, which is noteworthy although it does not reach the 480Hz of some flagship OLED models.

This monitor is designed not just for dazzling brightness but also for unmatched contrast levels, accompanied by a suite of certifications including Perfect Black, Perfect Color, and 100% Color Fidelity. The UltraGear 27GX700A is capable of achieving a remarkable 99.5% color reproduction rate and is expected to be 60% brighter than standard OLED monitors, also earning HDR True Black 500 certification. In terms of connectivity, it will be equipped with a DisplayPort 1.4, which suffices for its current specifications, but future iterations targeting 4K high refresh rates will likely require USB-C or DisplayPort 2.1.
