LG and Lenovo Confirm Next-Gen “GDDR7” Memory for GeForce RTX 5050: Upcoming Gaming Laptops Ready for Release

As the gaming industry continues to thrive, laptop manufacturers are gearing up to unveil their latest budget gaming laptops, featuring the highly anticipated RTX 5050 Blackwell GPU.

Upcoming Releases: LG Gram Pro 16 and Lenovo Legion 5 Series with RTX 5050 GPU

The release of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5050 has sparked some confusion regarding its memory specifications. This GPU represents NVIDIA’s entry-level option in the Blackwell series, expected to debut shortly after the RTX 5060 launch. A point of contention among tech enthusiasts is that the RTX 5050 would be the only model in the RTX 50 lineup fitted with GDDR6 memory, diverging from other models equipped with GDDR7.

However, recent reports suggest that this may not be the case, especially for the laptop variants. Notably, ASUS is preparing a gaming laptop powered by the RTX 5050, confirming that it will come with GDDR7 memory. Additional leaks corroborate this trend, indicating that the laptop variant of the RTX 5050 is indeed set to feature GDDR7 RAM.

As reported by @momomo_us, both LG and Lenovo are poised to launch new gaming laptops featuring the RTX 5050. Specifications for these models indicate the utilization of GDDR7 memory. For instance, LG’s Gram Pro 16 is confirmed to be powered by the NVIDIA RTX 5050, boasting “8GB GDDR7″as specified in its tech sheet.

This spec sheet outlines essential details such as system memory, display quality, and connectivity options. In parallel, Lenovo is also preparing two models equipped with the RTX 5050. The Legion 5 15IRX10 model is noted to feature the RTX 5050 GPU with 8 GB of GDDR7 memory. Although the product page isn’t active on Lenovo’s official website yet, it is appearing in search results.

Lenovo is also introducing the IdeaPad Pro 5i, which is listed on their website and features the RTX 5050 GPU. Although the specific memory details are not disclosed, it does confirm the GPU and its capacity. Nevertheless, multiple leaks lead to the conclusion that the RTX 5050 mobile GPU will likely utilize the faster GDDR7 memory.

It is hoped that the desktop version of the RTX 5050 will also incorporate GDDR7, as GDDR6 is notably slower and can impact gaming performance negatively. The RTX 5050 is anticipated to utilize the GB207 GPU die, featuring 2560 CUDA cores and a thermal design power (TDP) of 130W. Further information will be unveiled soon, particularly following the conclusion of the RTX 5060 launch event.
