The opening hours of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza immerse players in the journey of Majima, as he embarks on a thrilling adventure across the ocean. To navigate this new world, you’ll gain access to your own ship, the Goromaru, complete with various upgrades, and assemble a diverse crew of Goro Pirates.
Effectively managing your crew is vital for success in naval battles. As each crew member levels up, their attributes improve, ultimately enhancing your ship’s capabilities in combat. This guide will explore strategies to maximize experience points (EXP) for your crew, highlighting efficient methods for growth.
Gifting Crew Members

One effective way to bolster your crew’s experience is through gifting items and souvenirs aboard the Goromaru. As you explore locations like Hawaii, you can purchase a variety of gifts, from dried fruits to artistic paintings and boxes of chocolates.
However, this method may not yield substantial rewards, providing an average of 500 to 700 EXP per gift. Merchants at lighthouse checkpoints can sell these items—ensuring you keep your storage stocked is crucial, especially since some gifts have inventory limits.
To restock your supplies, store gifts in the Goromaru’s storage box, then reset the outer world instance by going below deck. This trick allows the lighthouse merchant’s inventory to refresh, enabling you to stockpile more gifts for your crew.
Hosting Feasts

Another engaging activity introduced in this installment is the ability to prepare sumptuous meals using ingredients gathered from the world.Dishes like the “Pirate Meal for Ten”can be cooked to host feasts in the captain’s quarters, boosting crew morale and gameplay performance. Besides gifts, you can acquire cooking ingredients from lighthouse merchants, such as fish and other resources.
These meals contribute a decent amount of crew EXP and are particularly useful for leveling up newer members in bulk. It is advisable to save these opportunities for your lower-level crew, as they are less effective for higher-level members.
The Madlantis Coliseum Advantage
The most effective way to farm crew member EXP in Pirate Yakuza is through the Madlantis Coliseum, specifically the Shooter’s Garden bout in the Madlantis Mania section. This bout comprises two rounds and, with a solid crew, can be completed in approximately 40 seconds.
Successful completion yields about 4500 EXP, ideal for maximizing crew potential. In my play sessions, I observed level 10 crew members gaining 5 to 7 levels rapidly before reaching diminishing returns.

The primary challenge is assembling a robust enough crew for early runs, but once you establish strong performance, leveling becomes smooth and consistent. If you achieve maximum levels for key crew members, consider gifting items to cap off their experience, although simply keeping them active in your crew will also yield EXP gains.
