LeBron James slams “LeBrick” narrative after producing better efficiency from 3 than Steph Curry and Kyrie Irving
Even though he is widely regarded as the greatest player in NBA history, Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar forward LeBron James has never been known for his exceptional 3-point shooting. As a result, he has faced criticism and has even been given the nickname “LeBrick”by his critics. However, in his 21st season, James has surprised many by outshooting some of the league’s most talented guards.
In Sunday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, James had an exceptional shooting performance, leading his team to a 116-104 road victory. He recorded 40 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while also tying his career-high with nine 3-pointers on an impressive 76.5% shooting.
The player with 20 All-Star appearances made 90.0% of his 10 shots from beyond the arc, increasing his season 3-point percentage to a new career-high of 41.6% on an average of 5.3 attempts per game. This surpasses his previous best of 40.6% during the 2012-13 season with the Miami Heat, where he attempted only 3.3 3-pointers per game.
Despite being widely considered the greatest 3-point shooter ever, Steph Curry (40.3%) is shooting less efficiently than James amid his career-best 3-point shooting season. Klay Thompson (38.2%), who is not too far behind Curry, is also not shooting as efficiently as James.
Moreover, the former co-star of Dallas Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving, who is a four-time MVP, boasts a higher 3-point shooting percentage of efficiency (41.1%).
It is worth noting that all three individuals are currently attempting and converting more three-point shots than James. However, his efficiency serves as evidence of his ongoing progress at the age of 39.
LeBron James Reflects on His Impressive 3-Point Shooting Against Brooklyn
Despite his impressive performance against the Nets on Sunday, LeBron James still made sure to discuss his improved 3-point shooting efficiency and attributed it to his relentless work ethic.
“I put in a lot of time working on my craft,” James said.
Despite performing at an All-NBA level in his 21st season, the four-time NBA champion suggested that his career may soon be coming to an end.
“Not very long. I’m not going to play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure,” James said when asked how long he plans to continue playing. “I don’t know when that door will close, but I don’t have much time left.”
Despite their victory on Sunday, the Lakers (42-33) remain in the ninth spot in the Western Conference. However, they only trail the Sacramento Kings (43-31) and Phoenix Suns (43-31) by 1.5 games, who currently hold the seventh and eighth seeds. This leaves the Lakers with room for improvement in their final seven games.
Despite being 3.5 games behind the New Orleans Pelicans (45-29), who hold the sixth seed, it is unlikely that LA will be able to avoid the play-in tournament.
Despite their current position in the standings, the Lakers are not considered to be strong contenders for the championship. Nevertheless, if they are able to secure a spot in the playoffs, with the exceptional performances of both James and his teammate Anthony Davis, they could potentially surprise and become dark horse contenders.
The decision about his future is likely to be heavily influenced by the Lakers’ level of success in the postseason.
