Rumored Xbox Ports for FF7 Titles
NateTheHate indicated that the potential releases of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth on the Switch 2 are part of Square Enix’s broader strategy for multi-platform publishing, unveiled in May 2024. Alongside their arrival on Nintendo’s console, both games are anticipated to land on the Xbox Series X/S. The integration of Final Fantasy 7 Remake onto Microsoft’s current-gen consoles is expected in 2025, followed by Rebirth in 2026, according to NateTheHate. While specific release dates for the Switch 2 versions remain unspecified, they may align with the Xbox schedule. Despite these developments, the potential for the third installment in the trilogy to go multi-platform exists, but it won’t launch simultaneously due to existing timed exclusivity arrangements with Sony.
The timeline for confirming the updated versions of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth remains uncertain. However, there is speculation that one of these titles could be officially announced during the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct set for January 23, 2025. Before any confirmation can occur regarding the Switch 2 versions, Nintendo must first present the new console, a reveal the company has promised to happen before the end of the fiscal year 2024, which concludes on March 31. Historically, while major entries in Square Enix’s flagship series have largely bypassed the Switch, the publisher has nonetheless shown consistent support for the platform, releasing 16 titles from the franchise to date, with the latest being the original six entries as of April 2023.
