Later this year in September, Apple is set to unveil their iPhone 16 lineup. In anticipation, third-party case manufacturers have already begun creating designs for the upcoming devices. This is a common practice for accessory makers, who aim to have their products ready ahead of launch to stay ahead of the competition. Recently, we have been given a sneak peek at the iPhone 16 cases, which reveal some details about the device’s design.
Leaked iPhone 16 cases hint at a familiar vertical camera setup for standard models
Over the past few months, Apple has been experimenting with a variety of designs for their iPhone 16 models. It seems that they are revisiting the iPhone X aesthetic, though there are some notable distinctions. This has sparked speculation about whether the company is lacking in fresh ideas for their upcoming devices. Nevertheless, the revamped design will offer the iPhone 16 a refreshed appearance and experience in contrast to the existing iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
As previously discussed, the iPhone 16 will feature a vertical camera layout, a design choice made by Apple. This change in design could enhance features such as Spatial Video support on the new devices. Images (via Sonny Dickson) reveal that the iPhone 16 case has cutouts that reflect the vertical camera layout. This layout is significantly larger than the one seen on the iPhone X, as sensor sizes have grown in size over the years.
The upcoming iPhone 16 is expected to include both Wide and Ultra Wide sensors positioned within the pill-shaped plateau. Alongside the cameras, the microphone will also be situated, while the flash is anticipated to be placed outside of the camera bump. This follows the current diagonal camera layout of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, a design originally introduced by Apple.
In addition to the vertical camera layout, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will also feature several other improvements that aim to enhance the devices’ functionality and user-friendliness. For example, it has been reported that the company intends to include an Action Button on all four models of the iPhone 16, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro models. Previous rumors have also indicated that Apple plans to introduce a new Capture Button.
The Capture Button is designed specifically for the camera features on the iPhone 16 lineup, including its video-taking capabilities. Its capacitive design allows for partial and full presses to trigger different commands. Half-pressing the button can focus the subject in the frame, while a full press will function as the shutter button, similar to DSLR cameras. We will continue to provide updates, so stay tuned.
