Leaked Design Insights of Apple’s Foldable iPhone: 12-Inch Internal Display, 9.2mm Thickness, and Dual-Lens Camera Features

Recent developments suggest that Apple is diligently working on a foldable iPhone, a project that has generated significant excitement despite limited official information. A credible tipster has revealed intriguing insights into the anticipated features, design, and mechanism behind this innovative device. Although the exact release timeline remains unclear, industry speculation points to a potential announcement as early as next year or possibly by 2027.

Innovative Design and Features of Apple’s Foldable iPhone

Based on insights shared by an X account HaYao, Apple’s first foray into foldable technology will unveil a book-style design, paralleling the characteristics of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Additionally, there have been indications that Apple may venture into a clamshell variant, directly competing with models like the Galaxy Z Flip. The most recent leaks suggest that this foldable iPhone will feature an impressive 12-inch internal display, larger than early predictions indicated. Although precise dimensions are yet to be confirmed, it is anticipated that the display’s design will closely resemble that of the Galaxy Z Fold.

Adding to the specifications, the leaker shared that “the left rear folds greatly, ”indicating that a substantial folding mechanism will be incorporated into the left side of the device. This advanced hinge assembly is expected to cost Apple around $110, with production sourced from “Amphenol/Taiwan Shin Nihon.”Samsung is poised to supply the display, leveraging their extensive experience in flexible screen technology. In terms of physical proportions, the foldable iPhone will have a thickness of 4.6mm when unfolded and 9.2mm when folded.

Regarding materials, the middle frame is confirmed to be constructed of aluminum, although there might be a future shift to titanium to bolster durability. Camera capabilities are also noteworthy; the foldable iPhone is projected to incorporate a dual-lens camera system on the rear, moving away from the triple-lens system found in the ‘Pro’ models. Both lenses are expected to utilize a cutting-edge glass-plastic hybrid, similar to those employed in recent models. Furthermore, the front camera could potentially showcase advanced metalens technology, reducing the size of the Dynamic Island feature, a trend also anticipated in the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup.

In terms of power, this innovative device is rumored to house two batteries with a cumulative capacity of 5, 000mAh. Speculations suggest that the foldable iPhone is on track for a fall 2026 launch, aligning with previous reports. Apple appears ambitious in its sales objectives, aiming to ship between 8 and 10 million units during its inaugural year, with aspirations to escalate to 20 million units by the following year. As the launch date approaches, critical questions remain about how Apple will differentiate this foldable model from existing standard and ‘Pro’ variants.
