It’s that time again to revisit the latest updates from the past week on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. As always, be aware that the release dates of these new features may be subject to change.
In line with our regular updates, several exciting changes have been rolled out for Microsoft Teams users. Notably, one new addition suggests that users on desktop and Mac platforms will see enhancements in November related to people searching:
Users will have the ability to locate content associated with specific individuals by typing their name into the search field and applying filters to refine results, yielding relevant content recommendations.
The desktop version of Teams is also set to introduce another feature in November aimed at aiding users with name pronunciations:
You can now record and share the correct pronunciation of your name, fostering inclusivity and minimizing the likelihood of mispronunciations among colleagues. A simple click allows you to listen to how your colleagues pronounce their names.
This functionality will also be introduced in Outlook later on.
Furthermore, Teams will implement additional security features on desktop and Mac platforms in November:
This will enable users to determine if an external party is impersonating a brand that is frequently targeted by phishing attacks during their initial interactions with enterprise users via Teams messages.
Additionally, in January 2025, a feature designed for meeting organizers across all Teams platforms will be introduced:
Meeting organizers can feel more assured about external participants joining Teams meetings, as this feature allows for a one-time passcode to be sent to the external attendee’s email for verification before entering the meeting.
There are also significant updates for Outlook users on the roadmap. Starting in November, the Outlook mobile applications will receive two notable features with one focusing on email receipts:
Users will now be able to request delivery and read receipts while composing emails in Outlook for iOS and Android. Additionally, responding to read receipt requests on received emails will be straightforward, along with setting future preferences for read receipts.
The second new feature for mobile Outlook targets Copilot Business Chat users:
In the Outlook app for iOS and Android, users will soon have the option to choose whether Microsoft 365 Copilot Business Chat operates with Microsoft 365 Graph (work) or Web grounding through a toggle in the chat interface, similar to the functionality available at microsoft365.com/chat. All commercial Microsoft 365 customers will access Web grounding; however, Graph grounding will require a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license.
That wraps up this week’s updates on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. We’ll return next Sunday with more news.
