Showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann see the upcoming season as a chance to delve more deeply into Eugene’s character, paralleling the thoughtful character expansions seen in the first season with Bill and Frank. Mazin remarked, “The game has so many little flourishes; you find notes that tell their own stories.”Druckmann expressed enthusiasm for exploring unfamiliar aspects of Eugene’s background, stating, “I’m excited to uncover Eugene’s story, which was somewhat superficial in the game.”
Robert John Burke and Noah Lamanna will also portray significant characters from the game. Burke is cast as Seth, a bar owner located in Jackson, Wyoming, where Joel and Ellie find respite following the events of the first season. Meanwhile, Lamanna will take on the role of Kat, a character with a past connection to Ellie, dating back to events prior to The Last of Us Part II. These new additions further enrich a distinguished cast, which includes Kaitlyn Dever, Young Mazino, Danny Ramirez, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, Catherine O’Hara, and Jeffrey Wright, who will reprise his role from the game.
This critically acclaimed series is a joint endeavor between HBO and Sony Pictures Television, with input from PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog. Executive producers include Carolyn Strauss, Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Jacqueline Lesko, and Cecil O’Connor. Both Mazin and Druckmann are not only serving as co-showrunners but also directing episodes alongside talented directors like Mark Mylod (Succession) and Kate Herron (Loki).
