Larian Introduces 12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, Cross-Play Features for Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3: Anticipated Patch 8 to Introduce New Subclasses and Features

Larian Studios is gearing up for a substantial update to Baldur’s Gate 3, set to include highly sought-after features such as a Photo Mode and cross-play compatibility across all gaming platforms. The upcoming Patch 8 promises to enhance gameplay significantly with the addition of fresh subclasses, which expand the current class roster by introducing 12 new options that offer a richer role-playing experience.

Enhancements Through New Subclasses

These new subclasses are designed to provide players with enhanced capabilities, including unique abilities, cantrips, summons, and character animations. Each subclass comes with distinct voice lines and effects that further personalize gameplay. Below is a detailed overview of the new subclasses being introduced:

  • Bard – College of Glamour:

This subclass allows Bards to heal allies and control foes simultaneously. Abilities like Mantle of Inspiration provide temporary hit points to allies, while Mantle of Majesty lets you command Charmed enemies to behave as you wish.

  • Barbarian – Path of Giants:

Embrace the strength of giants with this subclass. It boosts both size and strength, enabling more effective Throws and increasing your carry capacity, making it easier to dominate in battles.

  • Cleric – Death Domain:

This dark subclass specializes in necrotic damage and introduces new necromancy cantrips like Toll The Dead, which deals damage based on the target’s status. New abilities also include exploding nearby corpses to inflict damage on enemies.

  • Druid – Circle of Stars:

These Druids channel cosmic powers through three distinct Starry Forms: the Archer, Chalice, and Dragon, each enhancing specific play styles and providing advantageous abilities in combat.

  • Paladin – Oath of the Crown:

This Paladin oath reinforces your commitment to justice, enabling you to protect allies with powers like Righteous Clarity and Divine Allegiance, which restores health and absorbs damage.

  • Fighter – Arcane Archer:

Combining magic with martial skills, the Arcane Archer can banish enemies to the Feywild and unleash debilitating Psychic damage on foes, complete with new shooting animations.

  • Monk – Drunken Master:

This unique subclass allows you to use booze to regain Ki points while introducing abilities that hinder enemies’ capabilities, such as the Intoxicating Strike and Sobering Realisation.

  • Ranger – Swarmkeeper:

Rangers can now summon deadly swarms—Cloud of Jellyfish, Flurry of Moths, and Legion of Bees—to assist in battle, each inflicting specific types of damage and offering potential teleportation abilities.

  • Rogue – Swashbuckler:

This subclass delivers a pirate’s flair, allowing moves like Fancy Footwork to bypass opportunity attacks and creative methods to disarm or blind enemies.

  • Sorcerer – Shadow Magic:

Sorcerers embracing this subclass will thrive in dim light, gaining powers like Shadow Walk and summoning a Hound of Ill Omen to harass enemies.

  • Warlock – Hexblade:

Forming a pact with a Shadowfell entity grants Hexblade Warlocks powerful new abilities, including cursing enemies and raising the undead, which can then serve as allies in battle.

  • Wizard – Bladesinging:

Merging fight skills with arcane magic, Bladesingers will feature new spellcasting animations and a Bladesong ability that enhances speed and offers bonuses on Constitution saving throws.

New Features: Cross-Play and Photo Mode

With the introduction of cross-play, players on Windows, macOS, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 will soon be able to play together seamlessly. This includes cross-progression support, linked through a Larian account, making it easier than ever to enjoy the game across multiple platforms.

For those who enjoy capturing in-game moments, the new Photo Mode will offer an array of customizations, allowing players to adjust camera angles, select characters, and apply post-processing effects for striking visuals.

Larian Studios assures players that alongside these new features, they will also be implementing a variety of bug fixes and enhancements for in-game cinematics, further polishing the overall experience.

Looking Ahead: Patch 8 Release Date

Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is projected to launch in 2025, but Larian Studios plans to conduct public stress testing in January 2025, inviting both PC and console players to participate.
