The original City manga has been captivating readers since its serialization began in the September 2016 issue of Kodansha’s Morning magazine. The series cleverly blends surreal elements with slice-of-life scenarios, providing a delightful and unique reading experience.

This project marks a pivotal return for Kyoto Animation, as it is the first major anime following the tragic arson incident that devastated the studio and their community. However, given Kyoto Animation’s stellar track record, fans can rest assured that City the Animation will not compromise on quality. This adaptation, echoing the nostalgic charm of Nichijou, seems to be an ideal way to reignite the studio’s creative endeavors.
Cast and Crew of City the Animation

The creative team behind City the Animation has revealed the main voice cast, which includes:
- Mikako Komatsu as Midori Nagumo
- Toyosaki as Niikura
- Yui Ishikawa as Wako Izumi
- Yoshihisa Kawahara as Tsurubishi Makabe
- Miyu Irino as My Father Maccabees
- Ayaka Nanase as Matsuri Makabe
- Azusa Tadokoro as Eri Amakazari
- Yu Wakui as Riko Izumi
The production will be led by director Taichi Ishidate, noted for his work on Violet Evergarden and Hyouka. Character design is overseen by Tamami Tokuyama, alongside Kana Miyata managing color designs. Shiori Yamazaki will handle art direction, while Tatsunori Kase caters to 3D direction and Yōta Tsuruoka will be responsible for sound direction.
Set in a whimsical fictional city, City the Animation follows the amusing escapades of an ensemble of eccentric characters. The narrative centers around the Mont Blanc Trio, consisting of Midori Nagumo, Wako Izumi, and Ayumu Niikura, as they navigate the humorous challenges of their everyday lives.
