On @Netflix’s official X account, a brief 10-second teaser was unveiled, showcasing My Melody’s cheerful demeanor and Kuromi’s more edgy personality as she sits on a pink couch, clearly unimpressed. The clip highlights their contrasting yet complementary traits, affirming the deep friendship they share. The series, aimed at both new and existing fans, will exclusively stream on Netflix starting in July 2025.
Additionally, @NetflixAnime also shared a cute teaser image to introduce the characters. My Melody expresses her excitement, “Our animation with Kuromi-chan is starting this summer! I want to bring lots of excitement to all my friends. Please look forward to it.” In contrast, Kuromi’s message has a feisty twist: “A new anime with My Melody and me is starting! All you KUROMIES around the world, you’re gonna watch it, right? Don’t miss my cuteness.”

Aggretsuko’s Success: A Precedent for My Melody & Kuromi
The early promotional content for My Melody & Kuromi hints that the series will be filled with the cuteness and charm synonymous with the Sanrio brand. Stop-motion animation, though less common, is an ideal choice as it brings a unique tactile quality to the characters, who resemble plush toys, further enhancing their adorable appeal.
Notably, this will not be Netflix’s first foray into the world of Sanrio. The streaming giant previously launched Aggretsuko in 2018, featuring Retsuko, a red panda who channels her office frustrations through death metal karaoke. Its outstanding success over five seasons illustrated the platform’s audience appreciation for Sanrio’s creative storytelling. Given Aggretsuko’s strong performance, expectations are high that My Melody & Kuromi will also capture the hearts of viewers when it debuts in July 2025.
