This sequel aims to expand the beloved gameplay mechanics while introducing players to the oceanic depths of an entirely new planet.
New CEO Appointed Amidst Key Transitions

Krafton’s Vision for the Studio
Krafton emphasized its commitment to maintaining the original creators’ influence in the game’s development, stating, “While KRAFTON sought to keep the Unknown Worlds’ co-founders involved, the company wishes them well in their future endeavors.”They expressed confidence in Papoutsis’s extensive experience in developing top-rated game franchises, anticipating that his leadership will bring revitalized energy and momentum to the long-awaited sequel.
Looking Ahead to Subnautica 2
Krafton acquired Unknown Worlds in 2021, promising that the studio would continue to operate independently. Fans can look forward to the release of Subnautica 2, which is scheduled to launch in early access for PC and Xbox Series X|S platforms by the end of 2025. Notably, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have day-one access to the game, promising an exciting debut for both new and returning players.
