MBC’s *Good Day* Variety Show Concludes with Disappointing Ratings
MBC’s highly anticipated variety program, *Good Day*, hosted by BIGBANG’s G-Dragon, has wrapped up its run, leaving fans and critics alike disappointed due to its poor viewership numbers. Reports from various Korean media outlets have highlighted actor Kim Soo Hyun‘s recent controversy as a significant contributor to the show’s decline in popularity.
High Hopes Turned to Disappointment
Premiering on February 16, *Good Day* was poised to be a success, boasting an impressive cast of well-known celebrities born in 1988, such as Jung Hae In, Im Siwan, Lee Soo Hyuk, and Kwanghee. Despite excitement around G-Dragon’s return to the variety scene, the show ended with a record low rating of just 2.7 percent, far from the expectations set by its star-studded lineup.
Controversy Surrounding Kim Soo Hyun
The media outlet Wikitree has pointed to Kim Soo Hyun’s recent controversies as a primary reason for the show’s decline. He faced accusations of a romantic relationship with Kim Sae Ron, which allegedly began in 2015 when she was just 15 years old, extending until July 2021.
Despite continuing his work on the show following the allegations, backlash from viewers increased. In an effort to mitigate the fallout, the production team declared, “We will cut as much of Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance as possible and will not air the individual recording session from the 13th, ”referring to footage recorded after his scandal became public.
Trying to Recover from the Fallout
Despite attempts to save the show by omitting his segments and skipping a week of broadcasts, the ongoing controversy overshadowed *Good Day’s* other entertainment offerings. The overwhelming consensus among critics indicates that the scandal significantly hampered the show’s potential, which could have been a major hit under different circumstances.
