Kojima’s 10th Anniversary Revelations at Tokyo Game Show 2025
At the Tokyo Game Show 2025, Hideo Kojima marked a significant milestone by celebrating the 10th anniversary of his studio. During this event, he provided exciting updates about several anticipated projects, starting with the horror game titled OD. This title has notably remained resilient despite recent cancellations from Microsoft.
Insights into OD
Published by Xbox Game Studios, OD now has an intriguing new trailer featuring actress Sophia Lillis, who plays one of the key characters alongside Udo Kier and Hunter Schafer. The trailer exudes a chilling atmosphere, although it leaves much ambiguity regarding the gameplay mechanics. Kojima previously hinted that OD might polarize players, with some potentially falling in love with it, while others may immediately dismiss it. This duality in reception raises questions about the game’s unique approach, which will only become clear over time.
Introducing Death Stranding Mosquito
The anniversary livestream also unveiled Death Stranding Mosquito, a newly announced animated film project produced by ABC ANIMATION. The screenplay will be crafted by the talented Aaron Guzikowski, known for works such as Contraband and Prisoners. Direction of the film will be helmed by Hiroshi Miyamoto, marking a new chapter within the Death Stranding universe. It is essential to note that this animation project is distinct from the live-action film adaptation of Death Stranding, which is set to be directed and written by Michael Sarnoski.
Updates on PHYSINT
Kojima also shared intriguing details about PHYSINT, a new tactical espionage action game developed in collaboration with Sony. During the presentation, a key visual revealed a protagonist reminiscent of Eddie Redmayne, despite earlier speculation surrounding Robert Pattinson’s involvement. While the main character’s identity is still under wraps, three talented actors have been confirmed: Charlee Fraser, renowned for her roles in Anyone But You and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Ma Dong-seok (also known as Don Lee), who starred in Train to Busan and Eternals, along with Minami Hamabe from Godzilla Minus One.
Impact of SAG-AFTRA Strike on Development
Kojima noted that the recent SAG-AFTRA strike had significant repercussions on the development timeline of PHYSINT, particularly affecting the casting process. However, updates about the main character’s identity are expected to arrive soon. Additionally, it was announced that 3Lateral, the team famed for their MetaHuman technology—acquired by Epic Games in 2019—is in the process of developing innovative technology designed to accurately capture Minami Hamabe’s likeness. It is worth mentioning that PHYSINT is still in the conceptual stage, with a potential release timeline of five to six years into the future.
