In a recent development from the reality series Sister Wives, Kody and Meri Brown have officially parted ways after over three decades together. This split was announced in January 2023, and it follows the departures of Kody’s other wives, Christine Brown and Janelle Brown, leaving Robyn Brown as the only spouse still married to him.
The latest episode of Sister Wives, season 19 episode 2, delves into the challenges faced by Kody and Meri in their relationship. During a confessional segment, Kody revealed that despite their separation, he and Meri remain spiritually married. He mentioned that Meri is seeking a religious divorce through the Apostolic United Brethren church, where they initially wed and established a “covenant.”
Meri’s desire to end their spiritual ties prompted Kody to reflect on their history. He candidly stated that both he and Meri lacked the “wisdom”necessary for a thriving relationship. Kody acknowledged that Meri carried some unresolved “baggage”that he felt unprepared to handle. He expressed:
“There’s some baggage Meri had that I didn’t know about. Initially, I felt like I can live with it. I can’t live in a world where she is constantly angry at me.”
The episode, titled “Let There Be Light,”premiered exclusively on TLC on September 22, 2024. The synopsis describes various family dynamics, stating:
“Janelle considers leaving Flagstaff for good as she and Maddie look at land in Montana; Kody learns that Meri is asking their church for a release, their religion’s word for a divorce; Christine and Aspyn throw Ysabel a welcome home party.”
Kody Discusses Issues in His Relationship with Meri on Sister Wives Season 19 Episode 2
During the episode, Kody shared how Meri broke the news about her decision to seek a divorce. Meri expressed to the cameras her reluctance to be “sealed for eternity”with someone from whom she felt disconnected.
However, Kody was hesitant, unsure about fully committing to the church’s authority. He explained:
“About eight weeks ago, Meri told me that she was going to go to Utah, meet with our church leaders and basically request a divorce. It’s called a release in our church. However we are made accountable to God, I don’t want to be accountable to this church and all their BS.”
To avoid confrontation, Kody ultimately decided to let Meri pursue her own path, stating:
“So I’m going to let Meri go and do her thing because if I’m angry at her, it becomes a fight. I needed her just to go away because it just took forever for her to finally realize it’s been done and over for years.”
Kody reflected on the lack of compatibility and understanding between him and Meri, noting how much they have changed since their marriage. Future episodes promise to showcase whether the couple can co-parent amicably and address Kody’s “strained”relationships with his other ex-wives.
Fans can catch up with Sister Wives seasons 19 episodes 1 and 2 now available on TLC. The highly anticipated episode 3 titled “Am I Brother’s Keeper”will be released exclusively on September 29, 2024.
