KISS’ Paul Stanley Criticizes Jane’s Addiction Feud Between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro: “You Don’t Bring Your Problems Onstage”
Paul Stanley, the iconic star of KISS, has finally addressed the onstage altercation that transpired between members of Jane’s Addiction during their performance in Boston on September 13.
The concert took a shocking turn when lead vocalist Perry Farrell struck guitarist Dave Navarro amid the performance, leading to the cancellation of the remaining shows on their tour and a hiatus for the band, attributed to Perry Farrell’s struggles with ‘mental health issues.’
During an appearance on Steve-O’s Wild Ride podcast, Paul Stanley criticized the behavior exhibited by the Jane’s Addiction members, stating:
“You don’t resort to violence. You don’t drag your personal struggles onto the stage. Leave your ego behind – which might be tough – but you must set aside your anger and resentment before walking onstage.”
Stanley emphasized the situation from the audience’s viewpoint, asserting:
“Fans have paid to see you. This connects back to our philosophy with [KISS]; we aimed to be the band we wished we could witness.”
He further elaborated:
“For many, this may be their only opportunity to catch a performance on this tour. What happened last night or in the future doesn’t matter – it’s about the present moment for them. To see you in conflict with a bandmate is juvenile. It’s a disservice to those who bought tickets.”
Perry Farrell expresses remorse, labeling his actions as ‘unacceptable’
In the wake of the confrontation with Dave Navarro, Perry Farrell released a public apology, describing the events of that weekend as ‘extremely challenging.’ The 65-year-old expressed his regret to fans and fellow band members, particularly to Navarro.
“My breaking point unfortunately led to behavior that is unacceptable, and I fully accept responsibility for my response to the situation,”he stated via an Instagram Story.
Moreover, Jane’s Addiction’s guitar technician, Dan Cleary, disclosed that Farrell had also struck Navarro backstage following the onstage incident.
Etty Lau, Farrell’s wife, took to Instagram on September 14 to provide a personal account of the whole ordeal.
“To clarify matters, I decided to share my first-hand observations of what occurred on stage,” she began.
Lau described the palpable tension among band members, a contentious dynamic she believed contributed to the band’s excitement. She pointed out that her husband’s angry outburst stemmed from ‘tinnitus and a nightly sore throat,’ stating:
“Perry felt overwhelmed, night after night, by the excessively loud stage volume, which drowned out his vocals.”
“When audience members in the front row began vocally expressing their frustrations about the volume, Perry lost control,” she explained.
She went on to allege that following the performance, bassist Eric Avery approached Perry and punched him three times.
“Despite the chaos, Dave maintained his composure and charm during the tussle. Perry turned into a frenzied creature for the next thirty minutes – he ultimately didn’t calm down but rather broke down in tears. As for Eric, he either lacked understanding of de-escalation or seized the moment to throw a few unwarranted punches at Perry,” she concluded.
Video evidence recorded by concertgoers suggested that Farrell initiated the confrontation, as he approached Navarro and shoved him while he was performing. Following the scuffle, crew members, including Avery, intervened and escorted both musicians backstage.
