Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Star-Crossed World Boosts a Nintendo Switch Classic

Rediscover Kirby: The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land

For years, I’ve passionately championed Kirby and the Forgotten Land as one of the most underappreciated titles for the Nintendo Switch. Thus, I was thrilled when it was announced that this beloved game would be among the first to receive an enhanced update for the new Switch 2. The Kirby and the Forgotten Land Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, coupled with the Star-Crossed World expansion, not only revitalizes the game’s visuals but also introduces a wealth of new content designed to delight long-time fans.

Is the Switch 2 iteration of Kirby and the Forgotten Land a satisfying experience or does it fall flat? Let’s dive in to find out!

Visual Enhancements that Amaze

Having recently had the opportunity to试试玩 this upgraded version of Kirby, I can confidently say it stands out as the best-looking game among the initial Switch 2 updates. According to Nintendo, the game now operates at a stunning 1440p. While this resolution may not feel as dynamic compared to some other titles—like the Switch 2 upgrade for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild—the enhanced clarity is undeniable. This elevation is likely due to the original’s high-quality graphics, making the transition to Switch 2 even more impressive. The visuals are vibrant, bursting with color and character, and the transition to 60 frames per second adds an exquisite touch. Although the original ran smoothly at 30fps, the new framing makes the gameplay feel even more refined.

Introducing Star-Crossed World: A New Adventure

But wait, the visual upgrades are just the tip of the iceberg. The Switch 2 update introduces Star-Crossed World, which essentially serves as a new mini-campaign that players can access after completing the initial world in the game. The storyline kicks off with a mysterious meteor crash that unveils a volcano island. Here, Kirby encounters an ominous heart-shaped artifact known as the “Star of Darkness.” The mission is clear: rescue “Starries, ” little alien beings reminiscent of the original game’s Waddle Dees, who hold the key to dispelling the darkness.

Elevated Gameplay Experience in Star-Crossed World

The Star-Crossed World campaign revisits familiar stages from the original game, remapping a total of 12 levels with exciting twists and challenges. Players will encounter crystalline pathways and new collectibles, adding depth to the gameplay. Each stage has been enhanced with the introduction of “Starryflowers” and a mix of revamped enemies, ensuring that even seasoned players face a stiffer competition.

Among the additions are fresh “Mouthful Mode” transformations, such as a spring and climbing gear, along with several returning favorites that provide creative gameplay avenues. Initially, I anticipated the DLC would offer only a slight variation on existing stages, but I was pleasantly surprised. For example, in the reimagined Abandoned Beach, the sea parts to expose a vibrant coral landscape, effectively transforming the stage into a nearly new experience altogether.

A Rich Addition to the Franchise

These revamped “Starry Stages” boast entirely new layouts, ensuring they are just as exhilarating, if not more so, than their predecessors. Players can look forward to exploring hidden Starries, capturing collectible capsules, and undergoing a challenging new Colosseum run, culminating in an epic final challenge upon completing all stages. However, it is worth noting that no new copy abilities or Treasure Road challenges are included in this DLC. Nevertheless, for an additional $20, you’re getting a substantial 4 to 5 hours of entertaining gameplay that is both rewarding and rich in content, perfect for those looking to glean every aspect of the game.

A Must-Play Title for Switch 2 Owners

The Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World edition is the standout title for the Switch 2 that I can wholeheartedly endorse. With its dazzling technical upgrades and inventive new campaign, the $20 investment proves well worth it. As Nintendo fans anticipate the forthcoming Kirby Air Riders, it’s a fantastic time to indulge in the playful world of Kirby.

Mark your calendars: Kirby and the Forgotten Land Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World launches on August 28.
