Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Soars to Success
In an impressive debut, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has emerged as the largest game launch of 2025, achieving over a million sales and setting new concurrent player records on Steam. This RPG has garnered acclaim for its robust optimization, which is believed to be significantly attributed to the capabilities of Microsoft’s affordable console, the Xbox Series S.
Insights from Warhorse Studios
Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, the Global PR Manager at Warhorse Studios, recently shared insights on the game’s optimization during an appearance on the Iron Lords Podcast. He emphasized how the optimization process, particularly for the Xbox Series S, provided valuable lessons that were beneficial across all platforms, including the PS5 and PS5 Pro.
“We were like, okay, if we test a few things here and there, the optimizations for the Xbox Series S helped greatly with other platforms as well, ”said Tobias.“It’s the weakest of the four, I mean that’s not even a secret. Since you have to dial down on a few things and have to be clever about where you can in the programming, in the code, and so on, and be able to save memory here and there, some of these optimizations for S benefit the other consoles as well.”
Performance Across Platforms
On the Xbox Series S, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 operates in a single mode, delivering gameplay at 1080p with 30 frames per second (FPS).In contrast, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 feature two distinct play modes. The Quality Mode offers 4K resolution at 30FPS upscaled from 1440p, while the Performance Mode allows for 1440p gameplay at 60FPS, also upscaled from 1080p. The PlayStation 5 Pro enhances the experience further, supporting 4K gaming at 60FPS upscaled from 1440p.
“You either can go full force ahead with the big ones, or you use those memory savings that you found out for the S and use it for the bigger ones so that it runs smoother, ”adds Tobias.“I’m not saying that it looks worse or whatever than it could, but it runs better.”
Looking Ahead: Post-Launch Content
Following the successful launch, Warhorse Studios is actively developing post-launch content, which aims to enhance the gaming experience. Upcoming additions include free features such as a barber and horse racing, alongside three narrative expansions that will continue the adventures of Henry of Skalitz in the medieval universe.
