Warhorse Studios Announces No DRM in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
In a recent livestream event, Warhorse Studios shared significant news regarding the digital rights management (DRM) for their highly anticipated RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The game will be released without the widely criticized Denuvo DRM, contradicting earlier claims made by the publisher PLAION.
Clarification from Warhorse Studios
During the Twitch developer stream, PR Chief Tobias Stolz-Zwilling addressed the topic directly. “I can tell you right now the exact situation,” he stated. “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will not have Denuvo and will not include any DRM system at all. There was some confusion and misinformation raised, but ultimately, no Denuvo means players can enjoy the game freely.”
The Denuvo Controversy
The initial speculation about Denuvo’s inclusion began in October when a PLAION support representative indicated that the game would utilize this DRM technology. They suggested that while single-player mode would support offline play, an online activation requirement—common with Denuvo—would still be necessary.
Addressing Community Concerns
Amid growing inquiries from gamers, Stolz-Zwilling urged the community to lay the Denuvo rumors to rest. He emphatically remarked, “Stop texting under every post we do that Denuvo is in the game, because it’s not. We never announced anything, and as long as Warhorse doesn’t provide confirmation, it’s not true. Let’s bury this discussion and move on.”
A Trend Away from Denuvo
This decision is part of a larger trend, with several high-profile releases opting to forego Denuvo. Notably, EA and BioWare recently confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would also be DRM-free, achieving record-breaking player engagement on Steam at launch. Other titles, including Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Homeworld 3, have also embraced a no-DRM policy.
Release Information
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to launch on February 11 and will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
