In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Henry’s proficiency in the Survival skill serves as a vital metric for his ability to utilize natural resources effectively. A higher Survival skill not only enhances your yields from hunting and foraging but also equips you with the knowledge to assist others in the game.
While the aspects of hunting and herb gathering may not be the primary focus of the game, honing your Survival skill is essential for developing a well-rounded character in KCD2. Below, we explore effective strategies to maximize your Survival XP gains.
Strategies for Leveling Up Survival in KCD2

To earn Survival XP, engage in activities that connect you with nature. Key actions such as gathering herbs, hunting wildlife, and processing your finds will yield valuable experience points. Although spending extensive time hunting and foraging can be appealing, processing the collected items is crucial for maximizing your XP earnings.
Herbs can be preserved by hanging them on drying racks located near apothecaries. These drying stations can be utilized without restriction. This not only boosts your Survival XP but also safeguards your herbs from decay.
When crafting potions, remember that using dried herbs may diminish the quality of the final product. If this is a concern for you, consider acquiring the Dark Arts Apprentice perk and limiting your potion brewing to nighttime.
The principle of resource preservation also applies to meat preparation in KCD2. Opting to dry meat rather than cooking or smoking it will ensure it doesn’t spoil, albeit at the cost of some nutritional value and bonuses. Additionally, be wary of engaging in poaching activities, as it’s considered illegal in the game. If caught with poached meat, you’ll need to be ready to either defend yourself or negotiate your escape.
Greater game yields more Survival XP. For instance, taking down a stag can net you around 100 Survival XP. So if you encounter one while exploring, it would be beneficial to hunt it for the XP boost.
For the most successful hunting experience, seek out established Hunting Grounds on your map, as these areas provide more opportunities for encounters.
Recommended Method for Leveling Up

For those new to the game, herb farming is the most straightforward and least perilous option. Gathering herbs requires no specific skill, and you can freely collect them without inciting hostility, even from garden owners (like those in Troskowitz Apothecary).
Areas such as the glades adjacent to Bozhena’s hut and those near Nebakov (often visited during Klara’s romance quest) are abundant in flowers ready for gathering.
While out gathering herbs, it’s advantageous to carry a bow or crossbow. This way, if deer or stags appear, you can seize the opportunity for additional XP through hunting.
