Lockpicking is one of the more challenging skills to master in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, owing to several game mechanics. Unlike Henry’s ability to engage in combat swiftly by picking up a sword and confronting enemies, acquiring proficiency in lockpicking is a more nuanced process. Players cannot simply infiltrate a locked door or chest as easily, making this skill demanding to develop.
One primary obstacle is locating a locked chest that’s accessible for practice without the risk of detection. Even if players manage to find a suitable lock, it must be relatively simple for Henry to have any chance of success. The scarcity of easy locks, combined with the vigilance of patrolling guards and NPCs, complicates training in this skill. Fortunately, the development team has integrated a dedicated tutorial space where players can focus on honing their lockpicking abilities, particularly beneficial during the early stages of the game. However, this training area is somewhat hidden and can easily be overlooked by new players.
Strategies for Gaining Lockpicking XP Early in KCD 2

To efficiently enhance your lockpicking skill, seek out Miller Kreyzl in Lower Semine, a small village located southwest of Semine. He provides a training chest designed specifically for players wanting to learn lockpicking. Here’s a step-by-step guide to finding the training chest and earning Kreyzl’s permission to utilize it:
- Navigate to Lower Semine, following the quest marker associated with the optional “Wedding Crashers”objective: “Gain access to the wedding party with the help of Miller Kreyzl.”
As you travel, you can obtain the horse named Pebbles for free by visiting the Horse Trader in Semine after accepting the associated “Jaunt”quest from Blacksmith Radovan.
- Interact with Miller Kreyzl. He may request that you transport some sacks of ‘flour’ to a cart outside his shop. You can either agree to help or pass a speech check to bypass this task.
- Following a brief cutscene, Kreyzl will instruct Henry to steal a significant document from the Troskowitz Rathaus, thereby unlocking foundational training in essential aspects of Thievery, including takedowns, pickpocketing, and lockpicking.
- For practicing lockpicking, return to the same shed where you collected the sacks. Inside, you will find a Lockpick (very easy) chest. Use a lockpick to engage in the mini-game and unlock the chest, which contains seven new lockpicks. As this chest features a very easy lock, Henry will manage to pick it even without prior experience. Once unlocked, the chest will automatically reset, enabling you to practice repeatedly and enjoy moderate XP gains with each successful attempt.
It’s important to note that you need to bring at least one lockpick of your own to commence this exercise, as the miller only provides the training chest.
- Keep in mind this exercise serves strictly as a training mechanism. Henry will announce “I’ve got nothing left to learn here”upon reaching level 9 in Thievery and level 6 in Stealth.
- After this milestone, the chest will remain permanently accessible, and you will no longer be able to practice on it. However, this initial training marks a significant advantage, allowing Henry to handle easy and medium locks with relative ease thereafter.
Don’t forget to speak with Hensel, the Miller’s Hired Hand, for additional training opportunities in pickpocketing and takedowns.
To continue improving your lockpicking skills beyond this training, seek out actual locked chests and practice during the night. Remember, the higher the difficulty of the lock you attempt, the greater the XP rewards you will earn.
