In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, torches serve a dual purpose: they illuminate the path ahead and help avoid alarming the townspeople. Roaming the streets at night without a torch can lead to misunderstandings, with guards quickly assuming that player character Henry is up to no good, potentially resulting in immediate apprehension or a stern warning.
This emphasis on hyper-realism means that the game accurately reflects the lack of modern lighting in its medieval setting. When night falls, the darkness can be stifling—without a reliable light source, players may find it nearly impossible to see what lies ahead. Just as in the original KCD, possessing a torch before embarking on an evening journey should be the foremost concern for adventurers, and Henry is no exception. The good news is that torches are plentiful and relatively easy to obtain, provided you know where to look.
Obtaining Torches in KCD 2

Players can acquire torches through two primary methods:
- Purchase from Merchants: General traders often sell torches at prices starting around 5.9 Groschen. Savvy players can haggle for an even lower price. The first trader you’ll encounter who offers torches is Merchant Jurg Thomel in Troskowitz.
- Loot from Enemies: Another strategy is to search NPC inventories. You’ll have a greater chance of finding torches on NPCs wandering in the wilderness rather than in town. You can obtain torches by defeating the NPC, robbing them, or discreetly pickpocketing them.
It’s worth noting that, unlike other equipment such as weapons or armor, torches do not have a durability rating—once you acquire one, you can keep it indefinitely.
Equipping Torches in KCD 2

Equipping a torch is straightforward. Follow these steps after it has been added to your inventory:
- On PC: Double-click the torch or drag it to the highlighted equipment slot. Exit the menu and press ‘R’ to draw it.
- On Xbox: Press A to equip the torch. After exiting the menu, hold down ‘D-Pad Down’ to pull it out.
- On PlayStation: Press X to equip the torch. Close the menu and hold ‘D-Pad Down’ to access it.
Keep in mind that it may take a moment for the torch activation icon to appear on your console’s interface.
