Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, directed by Daniel Vavra, recently faced some backlash following its release. This prompted Vavra to address several unfavorable critiques of the game head-on, leading to a lively discourse on social media. This response has further fueled the ongoing narrative surrounding the game since its announcement.
Released on February 4 for PC and the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set against the backdrop of medieval Bohemia. The title has largely garnered approval from critics, as reflected in its strong rate on OpenCritic, showcasing a commendable score of 89 and a 97% recommendation rate from reviewers.
Despite this success, some outlets published notably lower scores, negatively impacting the game’s aggregated ratings. Vavra did not hesitate to confront a particularly harsh review from GamesHub, which rated the game 50/100, posturing that the outlet should take pride in what he deemed “excellent journalistic standards.”Additionally, he echoed similar sentiments regarding Eurogamer’s 60/100 score.
A trusted news source. Mission accomplished. We no longer have 90% Metacritic score. Be proud of your excellent journalistic standards! pic.twitter.com/HBeoGRLoRV — Daniel Vávra âš” (@DanielVavra) February 4, 2025
Vavra Addresses Claims of “Wokeness”
Vavra’s remarks elicited a varied reaction online. While some users supported him in challenging the critical outlets, others emphasized the subjectivity inherent in gaming reviews, asserting that not all games will resonate with every player. A day after his initial comments, Vavra responded to assertions that the game is “woke”due to the inclusion of same-sex romance options, which had been a point of contention since the game’s announcement. He reiterated that players have full control over protagonist Henry’s journey and characterized complaints about optional content as trivial, pointing out that players can choose to engage with or skip it entirely based on their personal preferences.
This caricature of a man is literally crying and whining for a month about one optional choice in a sidequest in 100+ hour game. Without even playing it. Imagine how insecure he must be about his own preferences. Meanwhile everybody who actually played the game doesnt give a f 🤣 https://t.co/s2lOMIrfSu — Daniel Vávra âš” (@DanielVavra) February 5, 2025
Despite the ongoing debates surrounding its reviews, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has achieved impressive traction in the gaming community. The title has not only quickly climbed Steam’s best-sellers list but also led the chart as of February 5. Vavra announced that the game achieved the remarkable feat of selling 1 million copies across all platforms within its first 24 hours of availability.

Looking to the future, Warhorse Studios has ambitious plans for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, intending to release three paid DLC packs along with additional free updates. The first free content addition, expected in spring 2025, will introduce a Hardcore mode, horse racing, and even a functioning barber, thereby expanding the gaming experience significantly.
