The expansive universe of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers players a variety of adventures, ranging from main quests to engaging side quests. Besides crafting new weapons at the smithy and battling foes, players can immerse themselves in numerous side activities that add depth to their experience. One particularly intriguing option is the “Troubadours“quest, which involves Henry encountering two bards, George and Michael, who share their passion for poetry and request his help in finding a lute. This guide provides a comprehensive walkthrough of the Troubadours quest, including tips to streamline the process.
As the “Troubadours”quest requires considerable movement, utilizing the Fast Travel feature or riding a horse—accessible early in the game—is advisable to evade potential ambushes from wolves or bandits.
Troubadours Quest Walkthrough in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
How to Start the Troubadours Quest
To embark on this quest, head over to the Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn and enter the tavern. At one of the tables, you will come across the two uniquely dressed bards. Engaging in conversation with George and Michael will reveal their admiration for poetry along with a request for a lute, specifically mentioning that it is displayed on the carpenter’s wall in Troskowitz.
Acquiring the Lute from the Carpenter
Proceed to Troskowitz and locate the carpenter who is typically found outside his residence. If you speak with him, he will share the history of the lute but will adamantly refuse to sell it. Given this situation, your only option is to steal it, so consider changing into less recognizable clothing and wait until nightfall for optimal stealth.
Approach the carpenter’s door and use lockpicking skills to gain entry. Once inside, take the left path to find the lute securely hung on the wall. Carefully collect it and exit the premises quietly. Be cautious; if caught, guards will demand payment for the stolen item, which could harm your reputation and temporarily decrease your character’s stats. With the lute successfully acquired, return to George and Michael at the Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn.

Dealing with the Drunkard during the Troubadours Quest
Once you deliver the lute, a cutscene will trigger where a drunken man accidentally breaks it. George and Michael will urge you to confront the drunkard, but you can sidestep a fight by successfully passing a Persuasion check. Failing the check will result in a fistfight, which you should win with a few decisive punches.
Where to Get Strings for the Lute in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
After the lute’s accident, the bards will express their disappointment, and Henry will suggest acquiring replacement strings. They recommend visiting Hunter Vostatek, located near Vidlak. Note that if this is your initial interaction with Hunter Vostatek, you need to complete the Lackey side quest, which involves helping the hunter fend off a pack of wolves and dealing with poachers.
Once you have located the hunter, inquire about lute strings. He will request sheep guts to proceed. If you have previously obtained them from Butcher Bashka, he will commenton your inventory. Otherwise, you will need to hunt down a sheep to butcher it yourself, while remaining mindful that killing any animal could void the “Lent“Trophy/Achievement.
Paying Off the Debt During Troubadours Quest
Return to George and Michael with the strings, only to discover that the innkeeper, Lawrence, won’t let them leave due to their outstanding debt. You can resolve this dilemma in one of two ways: successfully pass a speech check to pay 100 Groschen (which can be negotiated down), or assist with their work to clear the amount owed.
If opting for the latter, head to the barn’s right side and begin digging out the latrine. Once completed, collect the sacks near the cart and transport them inside the barn. You will need to carry a total of eight sacks to finish this task. Afterward, report back to Lawrence, which will clear the debt. Speaking with the bards one last time will trigger a cutscene indicating the quest’s completion.
It is unfortunate that no rewards or coins are conferred upon completing the Troubadours quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, even if you ask for recognition.
