Surviving the Suchdol Ambush

Before engaging in combat, seize a Voulge (halberd) located next to the staircase—this weapon will prove invaluable shortly.
Proceed to the top of the fortress walls, where you can retrieve a heavy crossbow from the storage bin and begin targeting the advancing enemies.
As soon as the foes approach the main gate, utilize the stones located beside your crossbow to drop them on enemies climbing the walls. This tactic mirrors objectives encountered during the “For Victory!”quest.
Once you eliminate the enemies at the gate, prepare for the next wave, which will attempt to scale the ladders.Use the Voulge to dismantle the ladders before the attackers breach the interior. After disabling five ladders, the enemy forces will retreat.
Assembling Your Team and Strategic Preparations
Your next major task involves gearing up for an inevitable siege alongside Godwin. It’s crucial to visit several key NPCs to ensure your team’s readiness. Here’s a quick guide to whom you should consult:
- Janosh: Source of food supplies.
- Katherine and Musa: Providers of medical supplies.
- Frenzl: Offers ammunition and weapon supplies.
All these characters are conveniently marked with red waypoints on the map, simplifying their locations. I highly advise taking the opportunity to forge a stronger weapon with Frenzl if your current gear is worn or underperforming.
Next, converse with Zizka and Godwin at the upper gate. Zizka will instruct Henry to gather a contingent of soldiers, including Dobrosh, Knocker Wolfram, Samuel, Kubyenka, and some “old friends.”
Meet each soldier at their respective waypoint markers to relay the assembly orders. After engaging with them, reconvene in the courtyard to inform your team about the night watch arrangements. Ensure you get some rest before the action begins.
Fortifying the Night Watch at Suchdol
As night falls, a drunken Dry Devil will disturb your rest, prompting you to check on the guard stationed at strategic points throughout the fortress.
Head towards each waypoint to assess the condition of your soldiers. If any are found sleeping, gently prod them awake with your sword.
After confirming that all your guards are alert, prepare for an ambush against the fortress.Utilize your Voulge to destroy any ladders that the enemies attempt to use. If they breach the walls, act swiftly to eliminate them.
Fortunately, with allies backing you, launch surprise attacks from behind while the enemies are distracted, facilitating quick eliminations.
Upon dismantling two ladders, gather with Zizka and your team in the courtyard to strategize for the upcoming challenges. Finally, engage Zizka in dialogue to discuss the events of the night watch.
This discussion will culminate in the final cutscene of the “So It Begins”quest, seamlessly transitioning into the subsequent main quest, “Besieged.”
