In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, while engaging in crime may not be the primary focus of gameplay, it certainly adds an intriguing layer for players who wish to explore less-than-virtuous paths. Stealing, whether it involves discreetly lifting items from a person’s pocket or appropriating treasures from chests, can be a swift method to accumulate wealth. However, players must learn the mechanics behind picking pockets and acquiring lockpicks to effectively engage in these activities.
Successfully engaging in activities like pickpocketing and lockpicking is a skill in its own right, reminiscent of more intricate elements such as Alchemy or saving mechanics in KCD 2. Below, we provide a detailed guide that outlines how to pickpocket NPCs and effectively use lockpicks to enhance your experience in this immersive RPG.
How to Pickpocket in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

To successfully pilfer from NPCs, crouching and positioning yourself close to your target is essential. When in the correct stance, a “Rob”prompt will display at the bottom right of the screen. Activating this will initiate a pickpocketing minigame, which unfolds over two main phases:
- Initial Timing: Begin by holding down the Rob button. A timer will appear to indicate how long you can search through your target’s belongings. Note that the longer you hold the button, the more time you gain, but you also increase the likelihood of getting noticed.
- Inventory Selection: After releasing the Rob button, a radial menu illustrating your victim’s inventory will emerge. Your task is to identify which of their items you wish to take before they catch on to your actions.
In essence, you must carefully gauge the time spent rifling through an individual’s pockets. Subsequently, select the most valuable items discreetly to minimize the risk of detection. Be mindful that removing an item reduces your pickpocketing timer, so aim to grab only what you can quickly and quietly.
To enhance your chances, ensure you remain hidden or unnoticed during the pickpocketing process. Interestingly, you can also target sleeping individuals for a less risky approach.
Finding and Utilizing Lockpicks in KCD 2

Lockpicks are hard to come by and are typically available through unscrupulous merchants encountered during your travels. You can also obtain them by looting birds’ nests. To collect from nests, crouch and press the corresponding button (G/RB/R1) to toss a stone. Ensure your aim is accurate, as Henry’s throw may not align with your cursor.

Utilizing a lockpick is straightforward. Approach any locked door or chest and interact with it to initiate the lockpicking minigame, which involves these steps:
- Finding the Sweet Spot: Maneuver the cursor using your Mouse or Right Stick until you detect the lock’s sweet spot. The cursor will glow gold upon locating it.
- Lock Rotation: When the cursor turns gold, press and hold D/LT/L2 while simultaneously turning the lock with D/Left Stick.
- Maintain Position: As the lock moves, the sweet spot will shift. Your goal is to keep the cursor over the sweet spot while fully rotating the lock.
Perfecting the art of lockpicking requires patience and practice—both for you and for Henry. Your success is influenced by Henry’s Thievery skill level, which plays a pivotal role in determining how easily locks can be opened.
