Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: The King’s Gambit Quest Guide
The The King’s Gambit quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 thrusts Henry into the role of an adept waiter on a covert mission. Although the quest concludes with a single outcome, it provides players with multiple avenues to achieve this, including some choices that could deplete their groschen significantly. Notably, this quest is time-sensitive; players must be prepared to serve the council at sundown. To ensure ample time, consider adjusting the in-game clock to early morning prior to commencing the quest.
This comprehensive walkthrough outlines each step of The King’s Gambit, detailing necessary interactions with key characters such as Franta, Haman, Botschek, and Anna to facilitate your progress.
Initial Steps: Obtain the King’s Waiter’s Certificate and Attire

Your first task is to converse with Vanak, the same individual you previously collected evidence against in the Via Argentum quest. He will inquire about your eagerness to overhear discussions involving Sigismund.
Dialogue Options with Vanak
- I want to know what Sigismund wants from the council.
- I wish to present myself to high society.
- That’s none of your business!
Responding brusquely to Vavak will only diminish Henry’s reputation further. Opt for a more courteous reply to maintain a better standing. Regardless of whether Vanak understands your intentions, it won’t significantly affect the forthcoming events.
Closing the Deal with Vanak
- Deal.
- (Intimidation) That’s not for you to decide!
- (Speech) How about a few groschen?
If you succeed at the speech check, Vanak will reward you with 60 groschen, allowing you to progress. The intimidation option merely serves to enjoy watching Vavak squirm—its only consequence is a further dent in your reputation.

Your next objective is to obtain the certificate and attire from Franta, the son of Vavak’s cook. While heading straight to the tailor is an option, he will likely inform you that Franta has already collected the clothes. Instead, head to The Iron Eagle, a German alehouse recommended by Vavak. Understandably, Franta is skeptical about your intentions.
Engaging with Franta
- (Presence, medium) I have important news for the king!
- (Speech, hard) I want to see the king with my own eyes.
- Don’t worry about it. How much do you want?
Attempt to use the presence check if you have invested in that stat; Franta is not shy in his demands. He asks for a hefty sum of 1, 000 groschen for the attire and certificate. If you opt for the bribe option, you may execute a charisma check to persuade him to view the payment as an investment, though failing the check means you’ll part with the full amount.
Preparing for Service: Reporting for Duty

After donning Franta’s waiter outfit, report to the Majordomo at the banquet hall, located just west of the marketplace. Your excuses for Franta’s absence are inconsequential; however, expressing enthusiasm to learn can yield useful advice on the evening’s proceedings, including serving etiquette. Below are essential tips for your role as a royal waiter:
Royal Waiter Guidelines
- Refrain from pouring wine for Sir Adam of Zarzits.
- Lower your gaze while serving wine to the king.
- Two wines are available for the evening: Monastery red and Tokaji white, located on a table near the entrance.
- Remain in the background until a councillor requests your service.
When ready, affirm your understanding of the instructions to proceed with the quest.

Once back in control of Henry, position yourself by the wine table and await requests for wine. You can inquire about preferences if you need clarification, and there are no penalties for doing so. It appears random whom the guests requesting wine will be, although Sigismund is guaranteed to ask for red wine each time.
During the event, if Vavak makes a wine request, feel free to provoke him without causing any significant disruption. You’ll also need to engage the “look”option in front of the right councillor before pouring their wine.
As you serve guests, the Bailiff Andreas will summon you, prompting a cutscene. He’ll ask you to retrieve a silver goblet that a thief has stolen from Vavak. Your reply should be affirmative, but don’t expect additional details when you ask for specifics on the goblet’s location.
Retrieving the Stolen Goblet

Exit the banquet hall via the door near your wine station and take a right. Ascend the stairs and enter the indicated room to find the stolen goblet resting on a desk.
Return the goblet to Andreas, then head back to your wine station to continue serving guests until Franz Rosenthal calls you over to request another favor. He will ask you to retrieve his gloves. Accepting earns you a monetary reward, while declining incurs no penalties.
Finding and Returning Franz Rosenthal’s Gloves
Head to the chapel to locate Rosenthal’s gloves. Feel free to pilfer what’s inside if the coast is clear, and take note of the winged figures, which total 24. Upon returning the gloves and providing the correct answer, you’ll receive a humble reward of 1 groschen for your effort.

Continue serving guests until Sigismund arrives, at which point the focus will shift back to Henry. A cutscene will guide you forward, ensuring you don’t forget the Majordomo’s orders.
Engaging Key Characters: Lichtenstein, Anna, Haman, and Botschek
Afterward, following Sigismund’s alarming remarks, you must converse with Hans and John Godwin before your next obligation to gather support for Jobst’s plan. This task can be completed in any order, and we begin with Anna.
Gaining Support from Anna of Waldstein
Anna awaits you in the upstairs hall, but she demands a bit of cunning in return for her assistance. Specifically, she requests that you switch documents in Haman’s bags with her own papers. These bags can be found in the room adjacent to the stable. Stealthily replace the documents, then return to Anna for her approval.
Securing Haman Alder’s Support through Combat
Next, approach Haman, who is conversing with Martin Oderin in the room next to Lichtenstein. Martin will challenge you to duel Christopher prior to securing Haman’s pledge. Although aggressive, Christopher is vulnerable following a successful parry, enabling you to respond with a series of attacks that will win the duel. Afterward, Haman will pledge his support for the cause.
Communicating with Botschek of Kunstadt
This step is straightforward. Speak with Botschek and inform Hanush of his plans to marry Hans to Jitka, fulfilling this aspect of the quest without additional confrontation.
Final Phase: Serving Sigismund
The quest transitions back to Henry’s perspective again. Once Sigismund concludes his dialogue, return to your previous position by the wine table. Throughout his conversation with Markvart, Sigismund will request wine frequently, preferring red each time. However, serving him white wine initially will not incur any severe repercussions. As the event wraps up, agree to toast with him to celebrate victory.
Lastly, if you haven’t yet, make sure to visit Trosky to claim the Vidlak Bandit’s treasure and the Map Left by the Deceased for additional cash and valuable items to sell.
