Kindle Fire won’t download apps – what to do

Like any other Android device, Amazon tablets allow you to download and run many mobile apps. Because the devices are running a version of Android that is specifically designed for Amazon, you must rely on their Amazon app store as a source.

Sometimes you may experience minor sync issues with Kindle Fire tablets. For example, you decide to install an application, but it does not load. In addition, it may happen that the application has successfully downloaded, but is not displayed on your device. In other cases, apps won’t sync or update even if you’ve set them to do so. This article discusses solutions to app download issues on Kindle Fire tablets.

Kindle Fire: Preparatory Steps to Solve Boot Issues

Before you start troubleshooting an app download, there are a few checks you need to make first.

  1. Your Kindle Fire may be running out of storage space so it can’t receive new content. Clean it up by deleting all content that you have already consumed and no longer use.
  2. Make sure your Fire tablet is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, you will not be able to access the Amazon Appstore. This will prevent you from buying or downloading any content. Also, apps on your device won’t sync or update.
  3. Check if you have Whispersync enabled. This service allows you to sync content between your Amazon account and your Fire Kindle. This is especially important if you have a lot of e-books and audio books. To check if the service is running, follow these few steps:
    1. Open “Manage Content and Devices” in your browser.
    2. Click “Settings”.
    3. Click Device Sync (Whispersync Settings).
    4. Make sure Whispersync Device Sync is set to ON.
  4. Enable sync on your Fire tablet by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping Sync. This step allows your device to receive necessary updates and download content for your applications. Please be aware that if you need to download any large files, this may take some time.
  5. Check if your payment settings are correct. Otherwise, you will not be able to purchase new content. This script also disables other content from syncing, preventing it from being opened.
    • Open “Manage Content and Devices” in your browser.
    • Click “Settings”.
    • Click Digital Payment Settings.
    • Click “Change Payment Method” to check your 1-Click payment settings. Update them if necessary.

Troubleshoot download issues

One of the previous checks may have solved your app loading issue. If none of the above worked, there are a few more things you can try.

  1. Manually deliver content from your Amazon account to your device.
    • Open “Manage Content and Devices” in your browser.
    • Click on the Content tab.
    • Select the content you want to send to Kindle Fire.
    • Click the Deliver button above the content list.
    • The Delivery pop-up menu will open.
    • Select your Fire tablet from the “Selected Devices” drop-down menu.
    • Click the Deliver button to sync content to your tablet.

  2. Make sure your Kindle Fire supports the content you want to receive.
    1. Some apps may not be compatible with your device. To check compatibility, search for the app in the Amazon Appstore and read the Details page.
    2. If you want to switch between reading and listening to an e-book, Amazon’s “Whispersync for Voice” service will help you with this. If you’re having trouble switching to the audio version, it’s likely that the title doesn’t include the audio version.
  3. If you didn’t set up your payment methods correctly before purchasing, you may need to re-purchase the content. This way you will push the transaction to be processed. Of course, you will only be charged once, depending on the actual successful payment.
  4. As a last resort, you can reboot your device. Press and hold the Power button until Kindle Fire turns off. This process will take about 40 seconds. Once this happens, release the power button. If the tablet turns off completely without restarting, turn it on by pressing the power button.

Successful troubleshooting

At least one of the steps mentioned is sure to solve your problem with apps not loading. Amazon online services help you organize and manage all the content available in your library. If you need to delete something from your Kindle Fire, don’t worry, it’s safely stored online.
