“Kind words mean so much” – Aryna Sabalenka expresses gratitude for love & support amid ‘difficult time’ after ex-boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov’s death
Since the passing of her ex-boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov, Aryna Sabalenka has expressed her sincere gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received.
Sabalenka’s ex-boyfriend, Koltsov, a former ice hockey player, passed away in Miami on March 18. The police released a statement indicating that they were investigating his death as a possible suicide, as it appeared he had jumped from a hotel balcony.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the player ranked second in the world decided to participate in the Miami Open but decided not to attend any press conferences during the event. Instead, she shared a statement on social media revealing that she and Koltsov had ended their relationship before his passing. She respectfully asked for privacy during this heartbreaking time.
Despite her impressive performance at the WTA 1000 event in Miami, Aryna Sabalenka chose to remain quiet throughout her campaign. She secured a victory against Paula Badosa in her first match but was ultimately eliminated in the third round after being shocked by Anhelina Kalinina.
The Belarusian has recently spoken out on social media, expressing her sincere appreciation to her fans for their immense love and support during a challenging period. She also expressed her gratitude for their kind messages, revealing that they have been a source of comfort and motivation for her every day.
“I want to take a moment to say thank you to all my fans for your outpouring love and support during this difficult time. Your kind words mean so much and I carry them with me every day. I am so grateful for you all,”she posted on her Instagram story.
Aryna Sabalenka to Make Clay Court Debut at 2024 Stuttgart Open
After her early departure from the Miami Open, Aryna Sabalenka will soon return to the court on clay at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, with the tournament set to begin on April 15.
The WTA 500 event will showcase a star-studded lineup, including the participation of a Belarusian player and nine of the current top 10 WTA players. Among them, the World No. 2 will compete against two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek, reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff, World No. 4 Elena Rybakina, and World No. 5 Jessica Pegula for the title.
Sabalenka’s goal is to secure her second title for the year at the Stuttgart tournament, after winning the Australian Open in January. She previously achieved a runner-up finish at the WTA 500 event in 2020, beating Barbora Krejcikova, Paula Badosa, and Anastasia Potapova before ultimately falling to Swiatek in the final.
