Kim Sae-ron Makes Her Comeback to Acting After Taking a Break Due to 2022 DUI Incident

On October 21, 2024, South Korea’s media source, The Korea Times, revealed that actress Kim Sae-ron is making her comeback to the entertainment industry after taking a break due to a DUI incident in 2022. The report indicated that she was seen on the set of a low-budget film being filmed at Tapgol Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

For those unfamiliar, Kim Sae-ron was involved in a DUI incident back in 2022, where she drove under the influence in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Her reckless driving resulted in collisions with a guardrail, a transformer, and a street tree, causing temporary power outages for nearby businesses and streetlights.

Police, upon arriving at the incident scene, attempted to administer a breathalyzer test, which the actress refused. Subsequently, they carried out a blood test that indicated a blood alcohol level of around 0.2%. As a result, she faced a penalty of 20 million won during legal proceedings.

Kim Sae-ron joins forces with an emerging actor

The outlet reported that Kim Sae-ron was seen filming alongside an emerging, rookie actor. Images shared showcased her wearing a stylish white maxi dress paired with a blue jacket and a full-length top underneath. She appeared lively and cheerful during filming, often holding several packets of snacks.

She stood alongside her co-star, who is noted to be a new actor, dressed in a checkered shirt layered with a black top beneath.

The upcoming musical film is directed by Shin Jae-ho. A member of the production team commented on Kim Sae-ron’s involvement, stating:

“It is confirmed that Kim Sae-ron will be in the film, but we cannot disclose detailed information at this time.”

To provide some background, Kim Sae-ron embarked on her acting journey at just 9 years old, quickly rising to fame as a child star with her role in the 2009 movie, A Brand New Life. This film was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival, where she was recognized as the youngest child actor ever invited to participate.

She further solidified her career with a role in The Man From Nowhere, which became South Korea’s highest-grossing film in 2010. Her performance garnered numerous accolades, including Best New Actress at both the Buil Film Awards and the Korean Film Awards.

Kim Sae-ron’s filmography includes multiple acclaimed films and series such as I Am A Dad, Barbie, The Neighbour, Manshin: Ten Thousand Spirits, The Villagers, Everyday We Are, The Great Actor, Listen to My Heart, Missing You, The Queen’s Classroom, Nobody Knows, among others.

Her recent appearance was in the 2023 thriller and sports drama, Bloodhounds, where she starred alongside Woo Do-hwan, Lee Sang-yi, Park Sung-woong, and Huh Joon-ho. The series is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
